The Sadness of Quiet, what a fantastic title. I love the poem and the expression of losing a wife unexpectantly. You captured that sadness thoroughly and artistically. A great job!

Terry, this is wonderfully penned. I feel the deep emotion and the despair so vividly portrayed here. A love lost is oftentimes recoverable, but it takes time. Whereas, some never do. Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sally :))

Hello Terry Broxson,
Nice piece of poetry meeting the desired norms, having impressive phraseology, smooth flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhythm, and transparently depicting the demise of poet's wife and its painful after-effects.
The 1st and last stanza are particularly noteworthy.
BEST OF LUCK in the contest.

Loved this poem. You wrote it with such a rhythmic sense. One verse flowed into another seamlessly. I loved the last two lines. When someone dies it has that feeling. When my father passed away I remember the quietness that came over the house at that moment. It was a moment of quietness, sadness and in some ways relief.

"Only sadness...and the quiet."
Wonderful poem. Thought provoking.

This is incredibly sad and it touched my heart. I can't imagine losing my husband but if I did, I think these would be my thoughts and feelings. Thank you for sharing this emotional poem. :)

Alone in your thoughts and summary of senses, the heart wants what it wants. So you cannot replace your heart with a new start, but you can do something more in the way of love. Take this time to mourn and celebrate the one you loved. Put it in a treasure chest, and leave it in a locked portion of your heart until you are ready to share.

I loved the fragmented format here, the broken up language really underscored this theme of a shattered life. You had a great negativity in the mood of the language too, that underscored that theme of loss and pain. I liked that opening image of death slipping under the door; a real modern image that shows that death is real and immediate. It can hit any time. There's also a sense of the mysteriousness of death, the fact that we don't know what lies on the other side of that door. We are only left with the nothingness here. estory

Your poem was gripping; a moving and emotional read that sunk into my heart creating tears. The time sequencing and flow of the poem was perfection, beginning with your dear wife's passing and delving deeper into the emptiness you still feel with her absence.

The imagery you created was also perfection; the silence and void of not having your dear one with you.

I liked the message of how we often unconsciously feel time will always be there for us, so we take for granted the blessing of each day spent with our spouse or loved one.

The 2nd and 3rd stanzas tore at my heart.

Thank you so much for sharing. Bless you and welcome to FanStory!
