This was a great story from back then. You made it all come alive and I really enjoyed taking part of this Christmas tale. Yeah, we all have our memories of this time of the year. I liked yours. Ulla:)))

A memoir of Christmas Presents
Christmas Presents Past

I say your are a great story teller, Telling us of the Christmas of the past. And all the A memoir of Christmas Presents were were amazing,
Especially ---I told Zoe I had found a present that was similar to one that just sold for $10,000, but not to worry, my gift for her was in budget. An original movie poster of Gone with the Wind did sell for $10,000, but a rerelease of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid sold for $8. With Paul Newman and Robert Redford on it I knew it was a winner. Zoe spent $50 framing it, blowing the whole budget idea.

'The man's job was to put up the tree and do the lights. At this point the man was through decorating. A man would surely put the decorations in the wrong place, not treat them with the respect they deserved, and possibly break one! ... I did offer a corollary theory: a man should establish a date for the decorations to come down. Turns out, this was only a theory. ' Loved this one!

Best of luck in the Christmas Story contest.

This was a cool story of your Christmas memories. I remember many of my Christmases from my childhood and never being disappointed. It's cool to know the magic of Christmas never wore off for Zoe. Good luck in the contest.

Excellent piece of work! I really enjoyed reading from top to bottom. I especially love the end where "your wife Zoe said she was going to lose 15 pounds before she went shopping but wind up gaining 3 pounds three months later and still wind up going on a shopping spree."

There is very little detail missing here. One particular part where it says "When Zoe and I got married" you didn't state the time frame or date when you guys did, or it doesn't say anything about what you guys did together while visiting each other for Christmas. Although you mentioned that on one occasion your dad brought your mother 7 watches for this part it may be a little confusing to readers as to how that came about. Did your wife come over to your parents' house with you during Christmas to witness this at this time?

if you find that it makes more sense to talk about something just you two guys did or said to one another after being "300 miles away"
Here's a quick and simple suggestion to fix this: I think it will sound better if you put the information about "the watches and finding them after your mother passes" right up under the paragraph about "your parents exchanging just one gift with each other due spending most of it on you two little boys, so little was left for them".

By including the year or date when you guys got married and moving a few paragraphs in order can help readers trace the timeline of the events in your memoir of "Christmas Presents Past" more easily.

Please let me know if any of this helps and again excellent piece of work. You've even showed me how to properly write a memoir I been holding in for a long time now

Gee when first reading your story line got mixed feelings. The toys you got were the old fashion kind, the best. Old things are so much better then new today. The same with everything else. I am sorry l didnt take care of my old toys. You have a good story. I enjoyed reading it. Keep up the good work.

Wonderful family Christmas moments are expressed with plenty of emotion here in this little piece. We get all these wonderful family intracacies and personalities. I especially enjoyed that description of the Lionel electric train, a staple in those days. I got mine in 1963 at age two. Every boy's dream back then. Now nobody wants to bother with setting it all up, and nobody has the room for those big ole trains. You can't give them away. estory

This was a fantastic story. I laughed in several places. Non-fiction stories are so much more interesting than fiction, though I've never written one.

Three months later (having gained 3 pounds) she went on a shopping spree of a lifetime. [lol!]

I really love this, because I can relate. This year marks 20 years since my family and I came to the US and we're going all out for the anniversary. It's nice to look back and see how far you've come, so thanks for this. Good luck in the contest.
Cheers

I love this story, and by the way, our granddaughter is called Zoe! She is 18. I was born in 1945, so I can identify with much of what you say. Presents were never given between my parents and I only ever had one small one. It is so interesting to compare the past, Giddy
