Wow, the death of the humble leaf given beauty and meaning from your gifted pen. My wife is also a lover of Autumn and it's beauty. I think if I were a leafâ?º I go for distance ..

Hello, Trask,
I love autumn too.... The colors and scents...mmmhh
Your poem is beautiful. I love the presentation, imagery, and alliteration.
Like..."whispy plumes mingling with the morning mists."
Your poem flows well. It draws on emotions and it presents strong images.

I hovered over six stars for a moment. Maybe next time. This is a good one. Many unique descriptions. October is my favorite month, and not because of Halloween.

The damp decaying leaves gives us a sense of death and summer becomes just a memory. A graceful and gentle write as your excitement for Autumnal scenes is brought alive here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Loved your meditation of the autumn leaves! I especially liked "how can it be that death has painted you so lovely" and "a martyr you disintegrate, a death no less than full of grace" as the leaves become food for the ground and new life to come.
Suggestions:
the forest floor becoming thick with tomorrows soil, (tomorrow's)
how can it be that death has painted you so lovely. (question mark instead of a period)

In recent years I've equated Autumn with the glory of death, just a transition to the fallowness of winter, reclining to be renewed to new life in spring and the richness of life in summer, if you like the gospel projected ton the seasons, beautifully written free verse, my friend, blessings Roy

These different deaths of a leaf can be metaphoric of the types of human deaths.
I agrees that Fall is a wonderfully beautiful season in its beginnings.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

This absolutely beautiful. You have captured the feeling of Fall so well here, with thought-provoking points. I especially like the part about woodsmoke prompting the primitive parts of our minds. I feel like that when I smell wood burning. Absolute genius the way you show how the fallen leaves are martyrs to a new season.

As I've said many times, when it comes to poetry, I wouldn't know a sonnet from sorbet. But I don't know when, or if ever I've read a poem that goes so deeply into the existence, purpose, and cycle of leaves and life in autumn to make me think. Your outstanding verses are stacked in order like alphabet blocks to paint a vivid picture. Thanks for sharing.
