Sarah is incorrigible. I suspect Scott puts up with her because he enjoys telling me these outrageous stories--this one I witnessed!

This was awesome. I adored it. So, we have Sarah the stalker, Sarah the plant thief, Sarah the criminal and to add to her accomplishments, the witch to boot (lol).

Superb descriptive imagery and language, the words and sentences rolled of a tongue and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course, it had a good dose of your usual humor and fun.

Loved this:

"A few months ago, Sarah appropriated one of Scott's tomato plants staked in the side yard. Disappointed by the paltry yield from the moribund plant, which she acknowledges water-logging, Sarah turned her attention to Scott's back garden".

Great writing!

Love your blog style commentaries on the daily events that come your way. How you find the time to be sensitive to the back story of each event AND be able to write about it, is impressive. Perhaps, you are a saint?

Your stories are all so colorful and fun, but this one in particular hit home. I live in a over 55 community where there is an area set aside for vegetable gardens. The problem is that it's open to pilfering, which you wouldn't expect from seniors. They sneak out at night and steal the best tomatoes, and leave only juice trails behind, but not long enough to track them down. GRRR
Loved the story,
Linda

I enjoyed this story so much. What nerve! It's hard to imagine the sheer audacity of some people, isn't it? I think I'd be tempted to call the police. I wonder if she's homeless and hungry or just doesn't want to buy her veggies. One can understand and excuse thievery if it's done out of hunger but not just because they're kleptomaniacs. Well done. Love the picture, too. That would keep me out of the garden!

That was an amazing story. At least he gets good stories out of her plundering his garden.

Hi Elizabeth,

Oh my! This account of Sarah, in her platform sandals and fuchsia shorts is indeed priceless! I can see the whole scenario in my mind with her leaning waaaay over with her trusty plastic rake to steal Scotts developing lone pumpkin hahahaha.

Rake tines stuck in a tree perhaps? So so good, Elizabeth. I wish I had a SIX :((

Have a great weekend!

Oh my! So this is a true story? Fascinating! Is Sarah all there in the upper realm? Or does she have bats in the belfry? LOL

Perfectly skillful treatment of this story, Elizabeth! Enviable!

At the very least, if not nutty, she's clueless!

So Sarah has tried to steal the pumpkin. I'm not sure she's what I would call a friend. Scott is too nice to allow her to continue doing this. Thank you for sharing plus I enjoyed reading.

I love it. The picture is wonderful, too. I have had occasion to lose some garden produce myself, so I am tickled by the frustration of those broken plastic tines!

Sarah certainly provides you with a number of incredible stories, Liz. This description of how she dresses and the neighbour's questioning of Scott about a possible "side business" is hilarious. I wonder if Scott will bother with a garden next year, or invest in a high wooden fence with a locked gate. I'm glad his pumpkin is so far unscathed.

Wow, neighbors, right? I think your story is artfully told. You make gardening interesting or is it garden security. Sarah is quite a character. It's a wonder she hasn't been shot because of her midnight prowling and poaching. Very entertaining.
