That's sad, especially if it's true. It would be so terribly lonely to be 92 and without anyone. I liked the scene that you set with the honeybees around the Russian sage. I guess he didn't actually drive? (It said: "now he'd had too much to drink to risk driving.") Was he only daydreaming the meeting with T. Ames while driving?
It seems that Bud died of alcohol poisoning? The hallucinating of the times past seems to indicate that.

Actually, Bud died from a massive coronary. I edited and cleared up the portion of the story where Bud pulled out after the patrol car had left, thanks for noticing that. Sometimes I get si caught up in writing the story that.. well, you know.

I love this story. It's perfect length, it's characters, it's easy nature. I am a police dispatcher, so this was a touching, beautiful story to read. Your work (and even your reviews) are positive and inspiring! Thank you for that! :)

Wow, thank you for reading, your great insight, and all the stars!
Don't know if I told you, I worked for the Sparks, Nevada PD for five years, took my lumps, drove an ambulance for another 5, then worked in the California Prison system for 22+ years, so I can relate to you and your profession!
Cheers, irish

No way! I worked as an EMT/Paramedic for 10 years in the suburbs of Pittsburgh PA! Too crazy! How did you work in the prison for THAT long... how did you work in a prison, period! Wow, I can't even imagine.

Yeah, it was interesting at times, we had a Level 4 Yard (The worst of the worst), a Level 3 Yard (Gang Bangers and Druggies) a Level 3 PC Yard,(Protective Custody, Pedophiles) and a Level 1 Yard (Pre-Parole).
Lots of action on the Level 4 yard.

Wow, how did you do it for so long? Guess you have to just leave it at the door when your shift is over.

"Reflections" is a fine story that so clearly shows the thoughts of the main character. Every reader is likely to be given the picture of beloved friends who pass away and leave sentimental thoughts. Lovely story.

Hi There,
Thank you for reading, your kind comments, and all those stars!
Big controversy over the images the dying see, real, or just the subconscious mind? I like real.

I love the conversations you included between the old man and the young officer. You signifies the different tone the two people used - one is more casual while the other is more serious, which I like. Overall, great story and keep up the amazing work!

Dear Irish, I found this to be a poignant and moving account of a life well lived.
, I would like to share that you evoke deep emotions with your writing; I am ever learning this craft which is worked out but never perfected.
Loved the reference to Glenfiddich single malt scotch, at least the old man had good taste. A fitting tribute to a full life, well lived.
Blessings,
Brother Badger Cull

Wow, I am humbled! Of course, you read more in-depth than most, and see the motivation behind the story.
Yes, how about that Glenfidich!

These two posts have a similar feel to them, irish. Both leave me with a sense of longing, and maybe, time slipping away. I think you've caught Bud perfectly. Life can play dirty tricks even upon the truest of men.
His death strikes me as an act of generosity bestowed upon a man deserved some relief.
I hope these two posts are harbingers of things to come.
Peace, Lee

Hi Lee, thank you for all the stars, I am humbled! This story was taken from real life here in my small town, of course embellished, but this man was a true humanitarian.

I am crying so hard - what a beautiful story!!! Oh, my, perfectly written and filled with pathos and heart-rending sweetness. One of the dearest stories I have read...I have no people either and think about dying alone unless my Main Coon hangs in there. Oh my, I need more tissue!!

Hi Irish,
This is such a tearjerker of a post! Bud Emmons went out quietly in his lawn chair, memories calling him to come 'home' that day in May. Perfect account of a living person in your town.
The way you presented the story was brilliant, weaving back and forth from memory to the present. I feel I now know Bud too by the time I finished reading...
Great stuff :))
Always,
