If we do not live in poverty, we need to consider ourselves fortunate, not successful.

You did a wonderful service to help the homeless. I have also worked for the needy in clinics, going to thrift stores and purchasing clothing, giving to the Salvation Army. It is very rewarding and thoughtful when a person helps them find a better life.

Lump in my throat! This is so heartrending and I love how you put it together. I see now the depth in you and thank you for your service to these struggling folks. Children should always have a sweetie at dinner!

I commend you for your service to the disadvantaged. I taught school for ten years and saw the product of situations that you were dealing with. Will we ever find a solution to all the hopelessness that surrounds us?

This situation has been made worse by the pandemic and many people have suffered poverty with no work and no prospects, your Haiku has highlighted this situation, these soup kitchens are a lifetime for many, love Dolly x

Excellent social commentary haibun. Homelessness is growing, as we have yet to figure out to make the free market system work properly for everyone. The single piece of luggage speaks volumes.

Your haiku demonstrates hope even in the midst of such destitution. I can imagine it was gratifying and heartbreaking for you at the same time.

Excellent contribution to your Japanese poetry club.

What a fulfilling job to help people, especially people in need. St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Room must not in Pasadena because it has snow. I bet these kids appreciate pudding more than the rich ones.

    It's okay to write a haibun about seasons and give us some of your history, maybe your favorite season and why. In any case, you can write another haibun for the event about your life history...it doesn't have to be a heavy subject.... anything you want to share. I know you live an adventurous life.... anything about it would be awesome.

Absolutely, and I think your contrubution is a wonderful thing, Marival. That is a great thing to do. It's sad to know that so many live on the edge of the safety net. In the Western world it shouldn't be like that. Ulla:)))
