Exceptional! 'I struggle and I emerge'; yes, I felt compelled to look that up for I knew it was something important to you.
You spoke volumes in this story, and it was important to me to read through. I really wanted to know what you thought and felt in these experiences and you carried through with great imagery as a backdrop.
You stated facts, not ego, sharing both your heart and mind.
Again, exceptional!
Take care and be safe,

Gale, thank you so much for the six stars! I am pleased you looked beyond the sentences to see a life lived. I wanted to share but did not want to bore or overwhelm the reader. Your review is a wonderful encouragement. All the best, Radier.

Never stop writing. You have much to say and an audience that wants to hear it.
I was not in the least bit bored, nor overwhelmed, as you told your story. Rather, I was buried deep in it, absorbing all I could.
Great job, and you are so very welcome:)

Thank you so much Yardier, for sharing your life experiences in this way. You write so well and tell such interesting tales. I was quite wrapped up in this story. It covers so much more than the time when you were eighteen, which made me wonder why you chose that title. Your editing is faultless. I have no suggestions, other than that you keep writing and posting your fascinating stories. Thanks for the treat. MM

Thank you, MM, for the encouragement. I chose 'Eighteen' because it was a simple introduction to a long path of experiences. It was an age when I began to focus on the up's and down's and, why's and how's of life. There are many stories in between that I intend to share. It's a goal anyway. (;-) Care to become a fan?

Compelling and thought-provoking reminiscencs. I normally pass on war memoirs but I make an exception for my favorite writers. Was this piece written in 2011 or from POV looking back?

Thank you. I wrote it in 2011 while in Iraq. I re-discovered it about a week ago in some old files. I cleaned it up a bit and posted it to see the response. I am pleased with the reviews and if this keeps up, I may have to admit I am a writer. Many years ago, I spoke at a men's breakfast. A gentleman approached me and said, "What a voice, you should be on radio. I asked him if he owned a radio station. Nope. To this day when a person comments on my voice or storytelling, my wife and I ask, "Do you own a radio station?" I think we may have to change the question to, "Are you a literary agent?

Thank you for sharing. This is a well-written article on some of the truths few people want to know. Your way with words and memories suggests you could have a career as an author. Best wishes.

Thank you Carol for your generous review and insight. There is more to come as time permits. Perhaps you would consider becoming a fan in order to receive notice when my work is posted?

Well, if you haven't already, it sounds like you have enough life experience to write a few books on military and paramilitary nonfiction, as well as novel after novel of historical fiction. This piece alone reads like a summarization of an epic story.

As an aside, I just released Chapter 4 of Pocatello Promise. I think you might like how the story is continuing and look forward to your review.

And thanks for sharing these first-hand experiences of war and its inevitable consequences - it makes for interesting and insightful reading -will humans ever answer that question 'Why do wars exist ?'

Wow, this is powerful stuff, Yardier. You have given insight into the making of wars and the naivety of many young men who sign up. Sometimes the best way to get past it all is to share it. I'm glad you made it home safe and you're sharing it with us.

I've enjoyed your writings very much. Your matter-of-fact style is what I like most. You've kept any political turmoil and opinion out of the story. I just know about young men that did what they were trained to do, leaving their homes and families for something they believe is right. Not all though, as history shows the draft was a necessary evil. I'm impressed with your life's work. I'm sure you have seen the worst of humanity and maybe some of the good too. Keep writing and I will keep reading. Take care, Sally

One would hop that through sharing them, someone out there would learn. Again, thank you for your service. I do understand, but as a spouse to stayed at home and took care of the kids while my husband did his army thing, and then as a mom who's son did his thing. I enjoyed reading.
