This is unbelievable! Was this actually on Facebook (the public forum) or on its private counterpart, Messenger? NO ONE would have been protected by suppressing this misinterpreted (and as we sentient humans know, nonexistent) threat! Tom would have been injured, traumatized or worse; Michael would have been in jail, or on the run ... and Facebook/Messenger would have been business-as-usual.
How did I come across this piece of ridiculousness (speaking of what they did; not your discussion of it)? I was poking around (rather aimlessly), looking for your "eviscerated" article. Perhaps you could direct me to it, please? I am rather curious. Thank you!

Blast from the past! I don't know anything about FB and Messenger.

Wow! Does that actually happen, Liz? Facebook can take action against you if you're deemed to threaten someone? I suppose, better safe than sorry.
"I'll run you over with my car." or maybe just, "I'll run you over."
But common sense should prevail.
Hugs,
Kimbob

It just flagged and rejected that one comment.
I put no trust in algorithms and automation--I can attest that voice recognition software sucks.

There is definitely a vast difference between a machine and a man. The machine didnt recognise the 'run over' phrase.as you said there is no human interface there... very frustrating... enjoyed it .it is an anecdote for me to tell others.

Liz,
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Did not HELP anyone. If he had really planned on running Tom over, Michael could have been parked and ready, motor running - and Tom wouldn*t even have his warning.
Did they send police back~up. No. Not that either. Great plan.
Ugh.

Depending on AI (???) is a dangerous thing to do as it is still in the development stage. When the regular human intelligence (???) is not working, how can you expect AI to work, when it is designed by imperfect humans!? :):) Just a thought. Enjoyed your story. Thanks for sharing!

Certain FanStorians would pick that sentence to pieces. Maybe Tom should learn to drive. It is strange that some awful things get by on the social networks, whereas something like Michael's statement, is booted off. I am not involved in any of the social media sites, Good point. When two actual people are communicating, there won't be those errors. judi

This is very funny, but not so for Tom though. This is another example that now all things good come from social media. I've seen things that should be blocked and aren't but maybe it's all in the arrangement of words.

have no idea what our world is coming too when the machines with their abilities and high technical knowledge decide what we really are saying...I think it needs a crucial tuneup.

Yes, Facebook and other online program that monitors language are often done by a computer program. We see similar issues with things like Grammarly. How real people talk and communicate is a complex thing.
Good work.
