So much for history. This is quite a story. Scott is blamed for something he really had no knowledge of what is going on. ;I wonder if Nolan is that obtuse when it comes to history or if he was deliberately trying to be obnoxious.

Scott wanted me to feel for myself how they are obviously fake--the guy was clearly saying F-you! Nowadays, its PC in my town to build low-income housing--hence the dispensation from preservation.

Although a lot of Aussies are basically good natured, rough and tumble guys with ironic or dry, self deprecating, senses' of humour, you'll get the odd blokes like Nolan, beautifully written Liz, blessings Roy

The contractor Nolan sounds very arrogant. I can appreciate the need to preserve history. Not that the brackets were in any way history!! Sometimes developers here are permitted to retain the historical facade, but may modernise the interior.

Boy, that contractor has some nerve. I hope he is being honest about the development but hopefully, it will serve a good purpose. I'm curious about what ever happened to the Trinity Church sign. Hope there wasn't another battle on Scott's property.

Unbelievable! But we know that there were developers who simply say that it's for low income housing but...

Indeed--he'll pull a bait-and-switch as soon as he can get away with it--after X years.

Hey Liz - this is a good one. Very funny. I like the way you describe how he lost your phone number. I had to think about that one. I forgot about thumbtacks. Anyway, great description.

What guy was saying f you?

The developer--he was pissed that Scott's document proved the property was historical--and that he was ordered to give Scott the original trim, etc.

This is what I call revenge with a capital R! Oh dear, it brings to mind the tale of a listed building opposite my apartment which is a real eye-sore. It has been bought by someone who wants to convert it into a small house. The trouble is the historical features have to be retained and it is the ugliest building I have ever seen! These conservationists should try living next to these monstrosities. Your tale made me smile Elizabeth, cleverly written and very entertaining, you could always object saying these buildings will be a fire hazard! love Dolly x

Haha. It's a good idea to go around town and ask people to tell you stories. Nolan was obviously didn't know what a historical artifact means, which is needed in his profession.

Well done.

That's too bad the historical buildings were demolished. It is surprising, Liz, what some folks will do to get their way. I hope the city planning board does a better job if something similar comes to their attention in the future.
Respectfully, Jan
