Liz, no one tells a story like you. It was highly entertaining. Thanks for sharing. It's strange that people will do just about anything to make a buck. However, if the radicals in this country don't respect the statues that represent history that they don't want to acknowledge, why would anyone be surprised that anything historical has no real value in some people's eyes. Think Scott's interest in preserving the town's history is admirable. I am all for preserving historical buildings. I'm glad Nolan was denied his building permit. He just seems interested in making money. Funny that the brackets were Styrofoam. judi

I am really for historic preservation. There are surely other places that would do for low-income housing. judi

Obviously Nolan had no empathy for preserving history, but if those styrofoam hinges actually came from the building, it couldn't have been historically preserved over the years. Still one hates to see such a jerk win. Fun read. Thanks for sharing, Liz

I guess I "misunderestimated" the durability of painted Styrofoam. What's even more astounding is how the brackets can support weight.
Perhaps NASA should investigate this. The rockets for manned launches could be much lighter and would need far less fuel to get the astronauts into outer space. It's something to consider.
