You have written so well on this very controversial topic. I am pro-life and feel that freedom to choose has become almost like a method of birth control with little regard for the rights of the baby. There are occasional extenuating circumstances warranting an abortion. But God knows and sees us and our lives from prior to birth. Women who do not want to keep their child should be offered support in giving it for adoption by some who can't have children but definitely want them. You have written with thought, wisdom, compassion and understanding- all of which I respect. It's a huge topic. Regardless of our views we need to respect the views of others. Excellent writing.

Thank you so much. I have participated in raising two children that are not related to me by birth, but as I stated in a previous comment, they are related to me by love.

What a powerful sane write about abortion, for and against. People are all too many times either rabidly FOR or AGAINST with no in between thoughts applied. There are mitigating circumstances to every case of a pregnancy. A young girl, a woman who experiences rape or sexual assault in some form... or as you so deftly pointed out, just an unwise decision in unprotected sex has circumstances that are worth noting. A blanket decision to outlaw abortion is wrong. The decision should still be up to the pregnant person and her doctor and after very careful consideration a decision is made. I'm like you, Nomi. I am pro-life on the main, because Life is the most precious gift of all and all lives matter. Life starts at the moment of conception as God's hand is in there the moment sperm and egg unite. A heartbeat is detected at around six weeks but life has begun at conception. But if an abortion is decided on after everything is considered then that choice should be left to doctor and mother-to-be. An abortion should be allowed as the last choice to be performed by six weeks or so in a hospital setting.
Having an abortion is a life changing event and should never be taken lightly or used as a heinous form of birth control. The emotional turmoil before and after an abortion leaves a mark on the mother that will have long reaching effects in her life, so it is imperative she weigh her options carefully.
Late term abortion is criminal!
Your poem is such a timely thoughtful expression that needed to be said, Nomi. I am so glad you let the pros and cons be heard in your skillfully written verse.

It would be criminal for me to use my license as a writer to only present one side of any argument, especially one involving the life of an innocent child. I debated long and hard over whether to even attempt to write on this difficult and emotional subject. Having strong feelings and opinions about the subject I realized that to remain silent would be wrong. Having decided too write about it, I was bound to do the best job possible to present it in a way that would not spark argument and denial but an appeal to listen and carefully consider the points that were raised.

This is a classic. I remember there was a meeting of "wise" men to decide when the time of life beginning was. So an even spread of men was chosen, men of religion, atheists and others. Yes, a poem which will garner many a differing reaction for sure friend. I have sat around tables when this subject has been brought up and watched fireworks explode and people seriously fall out. People of faith definitely leaning more to pro life and less to pro choice in my experience. It is a well written poem and I have no problems with it, we are all allowed to have a voice and make a choice : ))

I agree, it is a sticky subject. I too am neither Pro Choice or Pro life. There is too much hypocrisy and little logic in both camps for my taste. I can not believe I know what God intended for not. I do know this is well structured and crafted poem. It touch on three angles of the subject and does it in a respectful way.
