I always used to start with cold water--several sources said to start with boiling water to make them easy to peel--next time back to cold water!
The part about following directions and getting those results is true--as to the bass-ackward test rseults--I made sure to check which was which before making the eggs--the ten eggs I cooked were the good ones!

I think this is terrifically funny. You have such a wonderful sense of humor and I enjoy reading your postings very much. This particular story obviously has left a lot of egg on your face. (Ut ohhhh...sorry about that...the Devil made me say it!) Write on, my friend, :0) Janet

Oh my, I have to tell you that I love reading your posts. You always give me a good laugh, and this afternoon, I really needed it. All that work for bad eggs. I'm surprised that you didn't notice the stench-maybe because they were boiled. I'll try to remember the 'fresh eggs sink' rule the next time I have to check for fitness for use! Thank your for the chuckle.

Good. I always start with cold water. Sometimes they peel easily sometimes not. I think it depends on how fresh they are. So which eggs float?
-
Bad eggs float. Older eggs are supposed to be easier to peel than fresh--as are eggs started in boiling water--can't prove it by me!

Well written story with a funny twist at the end. I would say using words like fastidious and unfastidious was amusing if done deliberately for that purpose.

Very funny Liz, Great entertaining story. I did not know about the egg freshness test.
Now I cannot serve eggs without thinking if they are fresh as we overbuy them and keep them until we use them up.
I also cannot serve eggs without thinking of your funny story.
Regards,
Mary

Oh my!!!! I cleaned out our refrigerator the few weeks ago. Now that I am retired I had time to actually do it. I had quickly wiped it out but never since we bought the house, 15 years ago, really cleaned it. When Zooming with one of my sons and his family, I shared this with him, he asked, "Mom, how old was the oldest thing in there?" I said one dated back to 2014. Then I said, "Wait! There was one later than that, but I put it back. It's still there." He laughed. "You didn't leave the chestnuts there, did you?" I said, "Sure did." Those chestnuts go back to around 2000. Not sure of there exact date, but they've made many moves with us. The just sort of belong now. LOL

You took me back to last week when I opened a can of chili, poured the contents in a bowl and slapped it in the microzapper. The chili didn't look any different, maybe just a little more watery than usual. But when it got hot, it stunk badly it took my breath. The date on the can was 14-years-old. Thanks for sharing.

HAHA! FRom the second I started reading, I was interested to know what you thought the freshness test was.....and when you threw away the ones that sank, I was yelling at the screen. NOOO! But fortunately, a bit too late, you remembered the rule. LOL

They do indeed, if they float, there is a large air bubble that forms at the base of the rotten egg and it floats, whereas fresh ones don't, yes it's simple, but they can be missed, beautifully written Liz, well done, blessings Roy
