I didn't think you had it within you to plot murder! But you led us on very well. It does seem a pity that he couldn't self-evaluate and see what traits were both hurtful and alienating, even to his own family. And a bigger pity you didn't recognise these traits before you married him. Easy to be wise after the event, and sometimes they do put on a good show until the catch is complete. Well written.

He did indeed put on a show--two weeks after the wedding he said in reference to eating my cooking and taking me dancing--this is an exact quotation--his words are burned into my mind-- "I only did that to please you so you'd marry me. Now that we're married, I don't have to please you anymore."

One of my sisters married a man like that. On their honeymoon the physical and emotional abuse began and never stopped until he had a heart attack during one of his rages. He died. She and the four children she had in less than six years were better off without him. Her situation was very sad , yours also. So disillusioning and distressing.

(How come you couldn't just finish it with a separation then divorce like film stars seem to do? Did you feel sorry for him to stay that long?

Ha ha, well after reading your story, I can totally understand why all possible suitors turned down the chance of pretending to fall in love with such an outstanding catch. Some jobs just are just not worth the risk of taking : ))
