WOW! Thank you for sharing. From now on I will double check my fish to make sure it isn't over salted. I have never done that. You can bet I'll start. Tonight we're having chicken.

Thanks! Glad I had plan-B. No need to check regular fish--this is a special product I inadvertently grabbed from the frozen fish section.

This story is worthy of six stars, Liz. Unfortunately, I used mine all up early in the week this time. You've created great imagery here, and tantalized our taste buds, both with anticipation of that delicious sounding dish, and the horrible taste of salt. It reminds me of the time I used frozen salt dough pastry to make a meat pie. Well done.

Well, I'm questioning that tasting the fish was a blessing, as far as blessings go. Otherwise, your friend Gale might have been forced not to make faces and smile while telling you how good the fish is, and never coming back. Thanks for sharing.

I am glad your dinner was still successful as you quickly and smoothly switched to Plan B. My visiting mother in law years ago, once made an apple pie. Unfortunately, instead of the sugar canister, she pulled down the salt canister. Needless to say, after one taste, that pie was immediately pitched into the proper dumping place. Lesson: Always have a Plan B! lol

Thanks! Glad I had plan-B. Post your story! I wrote a story about wallpaper paste being substituted for flour!

I had a similar experience during my salad days of cooking. Some one gave me a packet of salted fish (it was not frozen and with some common sense I thought I had I should have realised that it was bound to have an extra pound of salt)I merrily made fish curry and and tasted and then it was exactly like you wrote.Spit spit spit....
Thanks for making me smile yet again

I enjoyed the light-hearted post. Especially the rinsing and gargling and
I $t@rt $we@rin&! you underwent. Being a vegetarian, the fish recipes went over my head--salted or curried. You won't believe me if I say I live right in the middle of fish-hogging people. Bombay was a fisherman's village--once upon a time!. But I was not born here! Right in the middle of vegetable and fruit gardens decades ago--once upon a time!): Cheers!

In the production of "Dinner With Gale"-- what understudy played the leading role? Clearly the salted cod (yew!) was not meant for the role! I didn't even know you could but it salted! Tuna salad anyone? Pizza?

You crack me up!

Luckily, I had my standby imitation crab--in two minutes I whipped together a one-minute faux-bisque--milk/marinara base.

Good come back dinner! Hmmm. I am deathly allergic to shellfish. If I ate artificial crab would I have an artificial anaphylactic response?

Kinda like a George Carlin "brain dropping...."

I got the fish from the food pantry where I volunteer--I found out this afternoon that they gave it out unawares to more than a hundred people as part of the standard grocery bag, which typically has plain frozen filets. Surprise!!!

I hope you had something in reserve for the meal with Gale. Your story, apart from being humorous, adds a quick and easy recipe, some history (salting fish, and Biblical judgment) and some implicit words of warning (check the labeling)!

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a very light-hearted treatise of the anatomy of cooking fish. The stage is set as it has been countless times before. There is an expectation laid before us that alludes to the chef as having been somewhat accomplished and a delectable feast is anticipated by all. All is going swimmingly well until the apex of the experience comes crashing down with an anti-climatic Thud. DID GALE GET TO EAT?

Salty fish is not so tasty and this meal did not go very well and perhaps preparing a pasta dish in the future would achieve some good reviews! I could taste the salt whilst reading here Elizabeth, love Dolly x
