Bill you always have a clever way with words; Stratford(not on the Avon) just made me chuckle. I've only traveled to Canada once to Niagara Falls. I was an adult and found it much more exciting than my 14 year old son who had the whole back seat to himself on that trip. It was my first trip to another country. Gas was in liters, the speed limits were in kilometers and you could buy prescription medicines over the counter. Oh and they only offered sweet ice tea. We had to order hot tea with glasses of ice to make our own.

Since my dad and grandparents were Canadian, and I crossed the border also in a cramped car when I was a kid, your story brought back memories.
I have been to Quebec, Montreal, and St. John's and I love every part of my visits. In St. John's we were visiting the science museum and two busloads of kids pulled up. We were expecting our visit to be interrupted with noisy kids running through the halls. We were wrong as these kids were so well behaved, we hardly knew they were there.

We have so much in common with Canada. I wish I had better memories of when we went to Canada. I'm not sure all the places we visited. We did go to Niagara Falls and saw both American and Canadian side. I do remember having to stop for inspection when we entered and left Canada. I didn't know Canada had a Stratford. Interesting account of your travels there. judi

I honeymooned in Canada with my first husband - we are on the west coast so I chose Butchart Gardens as our destination. We had to be admitted by border Guards also...but the Gardens were worth it. I also hope we stay friendly nations. Very sweet reminisce from you!

I enjoyed your romp through Canada through the eyes, of a youngster under ten. The focus seemed to be about right, and the pink money, ie two dollar bills have been replaced with Toonies.

Couple of typos:

Our ultimate destination was Niagra (Niagara) Falls.

I have returned to Canada on different occassions (occasions)

I agree with you. I too hope our countries continue having a good relationship.

When my husband (RIP) offered me the chance to actually travel overseas, I immediately thought of a couple of travelogues I had seen at school of Canada. They were absolutely glorious with wide vistas of autumnal splendour, the rocky mountains in their Winter wildness and canoeing on Lake Superior in the golden summer months. So, I went and had a wonderful time .It was autumn when I went and the world seemed made of gold and red and russet brown leaves as I travelled from city
to city to our furthest Western destination Niagara Falls. From there we turned south to Baltimore and finally to Washington DC.The problems we had with checking in at the border

Hi Bill Schott
sounds like you in your story about visiting Canada.. Even if you you were cramped in the car with two of your brothers.

I love Canada too, as we lived near the border in New York for awhile. We loved Niagara Falls and the Niagara Gorge, Skyline revolving restaurant. We especially liked Niagara on the Lake and Toronto. I miss it. Years later, we visited maritime Canada for an anniversary trip. My goodness, what a vista and adventure. The most beautiful golf courses we'd ever played.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally :))

If you've never been to Western Canida, that is my favorite part of Canada. My only trip to Eastern Canida was from Niagra Falls, NY to Niagra Falls, Canada. You didn't mention the falls. I would thought even a kid would be impressed with that. The Canadian side is the best.
