Last thing first... Michael is a dreamer, not above taking liberties with the truth. Seems Cynthia's talk of gold got him swept in way over his head! Nice to think he does have some scruples...
Glad Allie weathered yet another trama! (Hey...it got Garth to hold her hands!)
I may be way off...I was really starting to believe Darryl was oblivious to the drug smuggling. Hope that's the case, anyway...
Makes sense he wouldn't plan a fire and destroy his own undercover "goods.".
So! Mason! Cynthia! Father Jon! ...
Gold! Drugs! Human trafficking!
These folks put the " fun" in dysfunction!
Wait...so many more questions! It's like the game of CLUE on steroids!

Good you did catch that there are a lot of plots at play and each individual has their own plan. i wanted more action between Allie and Garth, but it's hard to work in romance when so much action is going on. Maybe when I go back I can slow things down. What do you think?

Carol,
Oh, my. Wouldn't it be nice if someone in that family had a heart? And a sense of moral responsibility? I mean to SOME degree - since he is lying to his company and living a lie. Oh, well. We can hope.
A note:
--> Even if he didn't do it, (h)e had to know about it."
Good stuff!

Don't be to hard on Michael. His aunt has swayed him a lot but he is beginning to see the truth....Or at least I hope is. Smiles and hugs...

The problem with Allie seemed more serious, but then the agents were able to deal with it, on the property. She was right about the urgency of telling them about the hidden drugs.
It was good that Cassidy cried out to save Allie, but I hope she wasn't overheard by the wrong people.
Errors and suggestions:
Even if he didn't do it, He had to know about it."
-->

When Liz deferred,
-->
When Liz demurred, (?)
[not sure, but this might be the more appropriate word]
He wanted, no needed, information
-->
He wanted, no, needed, information;
***
It seems that Michael may not be as mercenary as his cutthroat Aunt Cynthia!

Michael was thrilled with the idea of prospecting gold and his aunt buying the property. He never intended to hurt anyone.

Yes, that's clear now. Michael is one of the good guys. I don't think he ever realized how sinister his Aunt Cynthia was... and I think she's getting worse.

Maybe there's some hope for Michael. I love it when I can't make up my mind if I like a character or not. Great writing does that to a reader - so your chapter is GREAT!

So sorry... I answered a whole page of reviews, hit save, and they vanished with the crash of my computer. Just know that I appreciate your review and enjoyment of the story.

Once again we ponder as to Cynthia's agenda. How is it that she is involved with Mason Caldwell, who is up to no good?
In the matter of the false bottoms on the wine barrels, where are they coming from and who is behind the smuggled drugs? We have a lot of questions awaiting answers.

I need my internet to co-operate. I can write on Word, but it keeps kicking me off when I get on Fanstory or goggle. So much for country living and storms...I am so far behind!
Thank you for your review, and I appreciate it very much. I must be quick because another storm is on its way.

Oh, my, my, a regular conspiracy with more than one person or group at the helm and each wanting something different or everything. LOL. Thanks for sharing another fine chapter.

If it is Cynthia, she isn't answering any questions because she's under Mason's influence. I like the budding romance between Garth and Allie.
Garth moved to the other side of the bed and sat down beside Allie. "I'll hold her hands." (omit 'down'. you can growl at me now. LOL)
Let's sit down and talk this out. Starting with the barrels." (omit 'down'.)
On over one occasion, she'd dismissed his questions and ideas. (Needs rewording how about 'More than one occasion...)

New picture, girlfriend. Beautiful! And yes I growled... I'm lucky I can even post and then I can't get it right. My internet keeps kicking me off in the middle of things. Checking into a new place tomorrow.
I'll get right on the "down" and I thought for sure I wrote more, but if I did it didn't change, but I will. LOL
Thanks, Carol

My PC ended up at the computer doctor's today. I am on a laptop that I don't care for.

I've read through this twice. I'm looking forward to seeing how much Cynthia is up to with Mason. Some of the mysteries are coming into focus. I'm confused as to the amount of drugs found in the barrels. You speak of packets, then bags. (How many?) Was there enough to make it worthwhile without affecting the balance/weight of the empty barrels? I found the abruptness of Michael's backstory a little confusing. I guess he was conning both his employer and his aunt. I also wasn't sure if Cynthia was planning on selling her own property for some unknown kind of "development," or reselling Liz's property after they got the gold out. I'm still having trouble visualizing Cynthia's property, it's size, type of house, etc., the length of the driveway to the winery "ranch" house and the type of road between the two properties. You relied very heavily on pronouns throughout, which confused me from time to time and required reading ahead to figure it out. I hate to say it, but I was surprised that someone as smart as Allie would tear open a deep stab wound without caution and that she wouldn't be taken immediately to the ER since she's not in hiding. But I shall be patient and ride it out to see where it goes. I've made some more notes.
"Boss, if it's the stitches, I can do it. Did it in the field a few times." -- who is speaking?
"You are the stubbornest woman I know. What's so important it won't wait?" -- who's speaking! Tango or Garth?
"Poppa, take a few guys and check it out." -- said whom?
Darryl was in his office as Poppa and two other agents -- you also mentioned a couple of guys above. When did these extra agents show up? I don't recall anyone but Tango, Poppa and Garth, but perhaps you mentioned them in an earlier chapter.
Poppa tossed a pair of handcuffs to the agent. "Put the cuffs on him." -- This seems like a giant leap, since there is no evidence Darryl is involved. I also thought Darryl's immediate assumption that he was a suspect was a little odd.

Whoooo hoooo a cliffhanger! I like those surprises that come from out of the blue. Michael is in trouble about something and he's hoping that she'll talk, with him. But, I don't trust her either. Great job!

Secrets in the Wind - Chap 32
Begin Again, you a writer that likes to make the reader full attention to what is taking place. One thing I appreciate is the large font, it makes it easier to read. Oh yes, I liked the part where a drug was found in barrels. Just let me say I enjoyed reading this chapter and the previous chapters
