This is my second Supernatural Free Verse and this one is amazing. I love the artwork and some of the words remind me of the movie, Wuthering Heights.

I looked into the face of Death
And Life looked back at me. [ my favorite lines]

Dar Amahra, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Wuthering Heights was one strange movie, one I have seen, but not a favorite. It was written by a master of the pen though, so to have my words compared to those is a compliment indeed. cheers Cass

I think it is when we are trying to sleep that our mind wonders and a flicker of light or a movement in the curtain through the wind catches our eye and our imagination runs wild and sleep is then silenced, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Dear Dolly, Thank you for your review and the five stars. You describe that moment between sleeping and waking very well. It has been the bane of my slumbers for a long while now. If I don't close my eyes and keep them closed I risk another night of staring into the dark for hours on end. It's probably an age related thing, but I usually end up taking something to put me to sleep. cheers Cass

This gave me an eerie feeling to know what a man feels when encountering death. A very well written free verse poem on the supernatural. Good luck!

A really good entry for the supernatural free verse contest. You have set the scene in a very creepy way, and the the arrival of death personified is very well done. You do have some rhymes at the end which fit well and are smooth, but officially free verse doesn't permit rhymes. It's otherwise an excellent entry, and I wish you the best for the contest.

Dear Wendy, Thank you for your review and the five stars. You are right about the last few lines and so I altered them before judging began. Now they comply with the criteria. cheers Cass

This is indeed a supernatural verse. There is a sense of eeriness brought by the appearance of death itself, giving me goosebumps as I read. I am always afraid of graveyard when I was a kid because of the stories the elders tell, that the spirits of the dead rise at night.
It's a well crafted free verse. Good luck in the contest.

Dear Versch, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The appearance of Death in this piece wasn't intended. That's what happens when your Muse "takes off" and does her own thing. I can but obey. cheers Cass

Great job with your free verse on the supernatural topic. It has an eerie feel as the poem describes that moment of encountering death and the narrator does not seem frightened as she is grieving her many losses. Best wishes in the contest!

Dear Friend, Thank you for your review and the five stars. I may have disqualified myself with rhymes in the last six lines, because the instructions do say, internal rhymes only no end of line ones.Oops! Never mind, I'll let it stand and see what happens.

You can just be a bit more creative with the same words but broken up differently like:
Death was there with wings upswept. She outspread one
    and in I crept
    "Come," she murmured
"come and bide" But I could not waken and thus I died.
    Now my sins weigh
heavily and I beg of you now
    to pray for me".
