This writing story, Midnight Muse, brings the idea of that physical presence of a muse which appears when a few nuggets appear on the ground and insists on opening a mine shaft. Funny.

This was lots of fun! I like how you made this mostly a dialogue between writer and muse and show us how intrusive the creative writing life can be. Hope you do well in the contest!

Very cute! My muse wakes me up around 3:30 or 4:00 am and it sounds like you are just kicking your muse out of the room at that time! It was a cute story with the dialogue. I am so thankful for my muse but I wish she would sleep later!

A very creative entry, and yes the muse often appears when we just want to sleep - and will not accept "no" for an answer. Well done with this entry and best wishes for the contest.

Lucky for all of your fans that you have returned to writing. It is the most enjoyable and awe-inspiring little story that I have read in a long while.
Those Muses can be quite annoying, I agree. It is most difficult to write down her instructions before it's forgotten when you don't have a pad and pen close by.
It just happened to me recently. Maybe I didn't have enough candy kisses out for her. She does get grumpy when she needs a sugar fix.
Great touch, and very creative. Best of luck.

I'm so glad that you have started writing again. There have been many of us who have dusted off old ideas for use. When we go back to the old and make it new again by revising, it just gets better.

A very fun and well written story. I didn't any errors and found it entertaining. So many people seem to lose their muse, you can't get rid of yours. If mine ate all my chocolates she be gone in a hurry. =] Hope you do well in the contest.

Delightful. This may be a winner--ingenious conception of muse as midnight chocoholic--wry self-deprecating humor about the ancient trunk of dusty ideas and deflating a party balloon. Brilliant twist in the punchline reference to the contest.

I enjoyed how you characterized Muse as a pushy broad who makes herself at home anytime of night. But the narrator is no push-over and reasserts her independence quickly. Loved the exchange between them. Rod
