The in-laws are probably going to challenge for custody on some flimsy ground that she is not being a good mother, and then have access to the children's money which they will "manage" for them. Maybe that's too simplistic as they wouldn't have much chance unless they can find some major offence committed by Katherine. Good point to stop. The reader wants more.

Well, I figured the gals were gonna beat the socks off the boys, but what happened at the end, totally took me by surprise. I can only guess her mother and father-in-law are maneuvering to get the rest of Katherine's money. I don't think they would be trying for custody of the kids. I imagine we'll find out next week. This was a good chapter, Barbara!

I kind of thought the girls would win, so I wasn't too surprised. I was delighted, though that the boys handled it like gentlemen. The guy in the gray three-piece suit sounds like real trouble is ahead for Katherine.

I have to say. I like the way you handled the race, so no feelings were hurt and no gender problems with embarrassment, but by making it just a friendly non-serious race. It leads to the question: What was the point? Or what value was it in advancing the story?

I suppose this something of a set-up and we will see the fruits down the line, right?

You will see the point in, I think 2 weeks. It actually will bring Katherine and Gabriel a little closer, or at lease break the tension after a disagreement. Thank you for the kind review.

My scenes are usually over 1,000 words, so no problem. Now we know what Katherine's in-laws are up to. I don't think they'd have a very good case for getting custody of the boys, but if they're lawyered up, it could be difficult. That's what Katherine needs to do, too, and I hope she finds a lawyer instead of relying so much on Gabriel. Interesting details with the race. Katherine is facing so many challenges, she needs all the strength she can muster. judi

barbara:

I suppose Katherine has been served with papers contesting guardianship of her own children. It would be okay if her in-laws were doing it for any of the right reasons, for which they have none.
My best friend and co-teacher at work may be moving to a 6,000 pupil high school in Texas. She said their football stadium is better than any college stadium she has ever been in. Wow!

Most stadiums here are huge. Texas is big on it's football. Thank you for the kind review. What town is she going to? I feel 6000 is too large for a high school. We have 5 in my district, all huge. My son when to a 5000 student one here, it's too big too.

Your story is easy to follow, very well written. I enjoyed reading about the results of your challenge of boys and girls running against each other. Sounds like everyone had a good time. Now, you have once again left us in suspense.

Wow! What a punch line! Whatever her inlaws are up to, I know they can't win! At least everyone has them figured. Good chapter. Looking forward to next week, eagerly. No spags.

You've cleverly written a "must read next episode" ending cleverly to this week's chapter, and the clues are there, but the possibilities of winning aren't, obviously it's some form of major attack, but I'm sure it's in hand Barbara, beautifully written episode Barbara, brilliant stuff, blessings Roy
