I'm loving this! Trafficking in wine barrels? Wonderful idea! This is so good. :-) I don't know all of your work, but this is definitely first rate.

I noticed one error, if I may:

The study door opened, and both men shot a glare at the intruder. "It's just me." Liz smiled and set the serving tray on the coffee table. "Sorry, guys, but I had company in the kitchen. Liz brought..."
It should be "Crystal brought... "

I can't wait till tomorrow so I can read some more. :-) Off to sell ice cream. ð??¦

    LeAnn...I love you, girl!

I am thrilled beyond words that you are reading the entire story and emjoying it. I am blessed by your words, time, effort and stars. Sorry I am so far behind...between four birthdays, Matt's filming, visitors, and writing, I don't know which way is up.

How far away is that ice cream store? LOL

    Smiles and hugs, Carol

I have been away for awhile so I needed to backtrack to where I left off. This is another great chapter. I do not see any room for improvement. I look forward to the next chapter.

Oh boy. There is gold...there may be drugs (or was at some point)--there is certainly some type of human trafficking... Father Jon is regretting his involvement...he might have thought about the consequences earlier! Still--he is not above redemption--we shall see. Very nice description of the scene in the confessional between Mason and Jon. Mason THINKS he has this tiger by the tail. I think perhaps he'll have his comeuppance! As for Cynthia. I'd have a "taster" try that darn pie! She is devious and sneaky and all things perfect for this mystery! I'm past the point of guessing where you're taking me. I like it here in the passenger seat and thoroughly enjoy the ride!

I have been wickedly tempted to sneak a look at chapters I KNOW are there waiting for me! I'm resisting...I like the journey as much as the destination! --Karenina

Garth and Hank seem to be at odds regarding Garths investigation of Jack
McKinley. Hank as a friend refuses to suspect Jack of having anything to do with Garth's latest case. Cynthia just happens to appear in the midst of their conversation, with her Lemon Meringue pie. Her excuse for being there. On a more criminal note, we have Mason Caldwell visiting Jon, the priest, whom he has seemingly blackmailed into helping him with his dubious actions. He seems to be involved in many crimes.

Note:"Sorry, guys, but I had company in the kitchen. (Liz) brought..."

I believe you mean 'Cynthia'

Wow! So much is happening here with the priest and Mason. Good touch, having the two meet at the confessional booth. I'm behind in reading, due to traveling, so will try to catch up this week. Blessings. Carol

Fascinating chapter, as we see Garth and Hank discussing illegal drug operations, Cynthia skulking around and possibly eavesdropping and Mason orchestrating even more sinister criminal enterprises.

I didn't find any errors, but had a question about this paragraph:
Liz smiled and set the serving tray on the coffee table. "Sorry, guys, but I had company in the kitchen. Liz brought..." [I'm a little confused by this part of the conversation. Why is Liz referring to herself as "Liz"?]

Does the truckload of illegal immigrants reflect not a human smuggling operation, but a human trafficking operation? Mason's in the middle of that too, and it's about as dirty as one can get. Father Jon knows that his white robes are stained by it, and he is troubled. Is he troubled enough to come clean, before the story's over? Will we see a character transformation?

    Good day, Mary Kay

The women are selected by their beauty...some are kept by Mason to sell and others are sent to auction by others. A very ugly and sad affair. They are used to put the drugs in the false bottom of the barrels first and then moved on.

Oh boy. It looks like the cargo includes girls? They're into human trafficking? I hope Hank and Garth can put their heads together and figure out what's going on.

One comment about a name:
"Sorry, guys, but I had company in the kitchen. Liz brought..." (Cynthia brought the pie and Liz is speaking here.)

Another interesting chapter. Mason is really a no-good son of a gun. Jon has gotten himself into a predicament that I believe he is sorry for. I hate to think that Jack had anything to do with the drug trade.
