Your entry to the Shoes contest is such a delightful read. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and everything in between. I could visualize those perfect white patent leather shoes tucked away safely in their box. I had a pair of those growing up too, and my greatest fear was getting them dirty. Great job, and best wishes in the contest.

Your tone and syntax were beautifully executed. I appreciate how something as mundane as shoes showed to be an expression of the protagonist's inner worth and feeling of beauty. This piece was thought provoking by intermingling material reality and that which is emotional and goes unseen. It was flowery and cerebral. I enjoyed it.

Hello :)
This is really lovely. I absolutely loved reading it.
I enjoyed the wonderment of it - how the white patent shoes transformed everything into something magical. As if the shoes themselves were enchanted.
'It didn't seem to matter,
that I was dressed in tattered clothes,
and my hair a tangled mess.
When I put them on, I felt like a princess
with every twirling step;'
The simplicity of your presentation also adds to the overall gorgeousness of the poem.
Good luck in the voting booth.
Best wishes, Debra :)

I enjoyed your poem. It brought me back to my own adolescent years, when I wore my clothes, all handmade by my Mom, because we didn't have money for store-bought clothes. We, my sister and I, loved it when we got hand-me-downs from our cousins, who were several years older than me. They were most likely hand-me-downs to them too, because that was the generation we lived in. But they were "new" to us.

Thank you. A four star rating suggests this needs improvement. Do you have any suggestions?

I say it was you and your talent, boosted by the confidence-giving white patent leather shoes. Who or whatever helps give people confidence is a blessing in disguise, I think.
I bet that was a wonderful experience, and is obviously a great memory.
Very nice free verse and neat picture.
good luck in the contest.

What a lovely poem, every young girl's dream to wear a pair of shoes made with and from white satin, a dress to match, if mamma had given them, surely they were real, this is beautifully written in varied meter and excellent language, well done, blessings Roy

This work has reached the exceptional level

This poem remind me of bring a young girl and feeling that first time a precious object, like the pair of shoes, a dress, or purse. The joy and light this new object to oneself is felt here. The patent leather and iridescent description of the shoes made them tangible. The poem is heavy with description and leads with a bit of mystery...what was the blue ribbon for? Best dressed or a dance contest? The setting outweighs the action here, but it evokes a feeling where any child is made to feel special and seen. Thank you for sharing a memory of happiness.
