Hi Sally,
I enjoyed your Love story. A man who finds a beautiful, intelligent woman that can cook is very lucky. I'm not sure that my wife is intelligent (she married me), but she is a great cook. My preference is white cake with homemade strawberry jam in the middle, and almond frosting. A good carrot cake with creamed cheese topping is also pretty good with a cup of strong tea.
I can picture you tossing your ruined cake into the bushes...what a shame! If Jack only knew about your trials that went into the offering. But those things are often overlooked.
The song that this post brought to my mind is by Gordon Lightfoot, called "Anything For Love"...

Nice story, Sally! It's like you to go out of your way for someone else.

Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you for the lovely review, Kim. Jackson knows? he begged me to write this. He cried with laughter reading it with me. He loved hearing the song after all these years.

Your contest entry is very amusing and sounds about right for a first love. I would have called the dog catcher on that dog. I am impressed with your talent, I could barely boil water when I got married. Good luck with this.

Sally:

Now that is what I call true love - baking a cake every Saturday for years. It appears the way to your man's heart was really through his stomach!!! Whatever works, right? Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for the recipe, Sally. :) I also love cake, but I don't know how to make one. I just told my wife about it as she sits by my side. I'll let you know how it comes out. It will be delicious, of course. :) Thank you for sharing.

I love this sweet story. It seems like this is something that may have been done it simpler times but now now-sadly. What a beautiful love story as well. Well done.

I wouldn't have expected you to be the type to waste time on getting what you wanted. But, you started even earlier than I might have thought. LOL. And the cake and icing sounds delish! Thanks for sharing.

Oh, I'd kill to be able to eat that cake. But I'm afraid I'd have to eat the frosting all by itself. I'm allergic to eggs, and that means most baking. I'm glad your man liked it, and it all worked out for you.

This was a fun presentation. Like you, there were cakes I only knew about from TV. My mother only made flat pan cakes, If she didn't frost it last the
day long. If she frosted it, it lasted about 1 hour. The cake that fascinated my was the 2 layer ones. Whoa, they were tall. I couldn't believe what the slice looked when cut. I'm not sure how old I was when I saw my first tall cake. I was amazed and excited. I bet you'll get a lot of cakes stories from the readers.

Hello Sal.

You certainly made the case you get to a man's heart through his stomach. I'm going to have to ask my wife why she never made cakes for me. Actually, she has another specialty she brews up for me. She makes chili in a crock pot. In fact, we're having it Friday for supper. It's worked so far. In 2022 we celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

Good luck in the contest.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a delightful story of how love and determination can overcome obstacles such as perfecting a new recipe and hand carrying a cake safely past a persistent nipping dog in hot weather. Though Jack surely liked receiving those cake varieties he listed as favorites, the degree of loving effort you put into that voluntary weekly task had to impress him even more. How could he resist such sincerity? He knew he had found real love likely to last, and it has. Superb.
