I was going to say, "Aspens in North Carolina? don't think so." You must have been (beautifully) reminiscing about Colorado.
My sister lives in SC, up near the NC border and I used to live in CO, so am familiar with both. HOWEVER, your Tanka is wonderfully written and a joy to read.
Congrats on All Time Best.

You are right about the Aspens in NC. I tried to plant one here because one of my granddaughter's name is Aspen but could not even buy one. My lake story was about a little lake in NW PA where I am from. I have seen your Aspens in CO and they are amazing.
Thanks you for the excellent review.

well, now I'm in TX (originally from GA)
lovely, big oaks here. (big everything) :)
But what a lovely name for your granddaughter!

We used to live in Rock Hill SC. Small world. :))))

But you're right. small world. neat.

Because the tanka is so 'spare', I think I'm looking also for the prose to have that same quality. You capture the moment visually and sensuously, but I think the prose section is too long for my personal taste. You've already given us the picture - I don't think you need more! Still, a lovely piece though! Thank you! :)Sharyn

That is so beautiful. Your prose paints such a clear picture that it makes us feel we are right there with you, enjoying the breaking of dawn. And as we read the verse, we can almost taste the trout. Very well done.

Thank you for introducing me to Tanka prose. I heard of Tanka of course, but not of this variation.
A great job with this- excellent imagery, visuals and artistic presentation.
Much enjoyed, thank you.

The landscape artwork is very nice and quite appropriate for your writing. I love learning about new poet forms. That is, new to me. You crafted this tanka prose poem very well.

Comment from Gloria ....
I very much enjoy this vivid illustration of a morning at the Adirondack Mountains. Each image rises visually, an then relaxes into the background much like the big mouth bass after snatching the dragonfly.
The tanka conclusion is a perfect summation of a successful catch.
A most enjoyable read today. :))

I enjoy reading the simple poems, but found out that they require thought and attention to rules.
This tanka is a lovely poem that explains the moment in the early morning in which the viewer sees nature in beauty and unfolding of the day. It takes your breath away. Sunrise is always special. The charismatic countryside is always a winner.
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you J for your encouraging review. Tanka prose does have lots of rules but they are fun to write. and of course, rules are made to be broken. :))))

In my opinion, an absorbing and edifying write, in both prose and verse - imaginatively descriptive in both venues and a satisfying read, touching the inner chord of human experience...
