I cried reading this. It was so moving. We always think we have more time, until it's too late. And as the saying goes, we always hurt the ones we love. I think the main character, while not getting a pass on his past behavior, can have a small sense of peace knowing that Cookie heard his words and left the earth hearing what she had always wished for. Thank you for sharing.

Your story is very well written and paints a sad picture of how regrets can consume us at the time of a passing of a loved one. If only a person had done differently, but time cannot be replaced.

A very moving fictional tale. And while it may be true that it is never too late to apologize, one has to wonder if that apology is true. This is well written story and it makes the reader wonder if one more apology from someone who has given so many empty ones matter at the end. Food for thought.

He struggled with gambling and I with alcoholism. I have come to believe that love, compassion and forgiveness trumps all. This is a beautiful piece. Thank you for your raw and powerful share.

This is a heart rending story well told. It may be fiction but this sort of story is too often true for those who are unable to control the addictions that dominate they their lives. Even when their mate is willing to forgive the guilt of knowing you have failed the one you cared about goes on to destroy you as well.

The story is fiction, which I derived from a true incident. I wanted to use Time as a theme and how precious it can be.
