What a fantastic story that had me from the start. I like that you started with the descriptions of charges, had you been charged with such crime. It was interesting to see the contrast on how states would charge based on the exact crime. I'd say being left in the freezing temp for an hour would make a person desperate. Great and interesting story you've written. Enjoyed every word.

That was lucky that the bus driver took it into his own hands and asked for permission to go to Forrest Hills. You could have been in big trouble but if you waited any longer you may still have been eight passengers but ending up riding in a hearse and instead of Forrest Hills arriving at the morgue. Good write.

Liz, you were one cheeky young woman! Is this REALLY biographical nonfiction? I am very impressed. I think you've got proverbial testicles (not to detract, at all, from your status as a whole woman, having borne no less than three children during your lifetime).
I was wondering where you were going, with all of those legal references, at the beginning. You were very, kind ... to get those seven people a ride, on that freezing cold night. May I ask, in what state were said Riverside and Forest Hills located? We have similarly named neighborhoods in New York City, but something tells me this couldn't have happened (and it would never have been tolerated) here.
One lonely suggestion:
I'd been waiting twenty minutes,
-->
I'd been waiting twenty minutes;
***
I'm neither a criminal nor a law breaker, and I would NEVER encourage ANYONE to do that NOW, but I have to say, Liz, YOU GO, GIRL!
Might I add, that you had an especially NICE bus driver. And that had to be the most peaceful hijacking I've ever heard of!

One of the most exhilarating experiences of my life!
You are magic #26--you got me All Time Best (a gross misnomer). I've been putting banner ads on this--3 of them--got 2 reviews since--is that how you noticed this post or did you just get it from the list?
Thanks--the fix is in--missed that whilst I reworked the sentence.
-
You're very welcome, Liz! I can imagine how exhilarating that was, too.
I'm thrilled to be magic #26. And yes, it was absolutely the banner ad! You'll get an ATB rank for July, I'm sure, because you not too close to the 31st, either.
Three banner ads, wow!
I'm glad my little fix was helpful :-)
Love and blessings, Mary Kay xoxo

And I love your pink hair!

reply by Elizabeth Emerald on 27-Jul-2021 Thanks! I figured it was high time to update it given the dramatic change in haircolor--even the original was misleading--in the dim club light my vivid red cme out brown.
-
Thanks again! I never buy those ads--I win them in bonus reviewing--I use them when I'm close--as you can see, they yield modest returns--I never look at that banner area myself.
-
You're very welcome, Liz! I've won a number of them, too, EXCEPT for just today, when I was trying to merely use one, and bought one, instead. As Homer Simpson would say, "D'oh!"
I actually do look in the banner area, it just comes up when I'm scrolling along on my cellphone.
I doubt any of the beneficiaries of your, um, hijacking, have ever forgotten the story, either. You must be legendary in their minds ;-)
With all of the really bad and violent things that go on these days, I doubt such an incident would go unnoticed or unreported, in these times. They would probably fear they had an escalating psycho on their hands (which you, apparently, were not).
A guy in NYC here recently stole a bus and rode it around, just for the fun of it. He was actually mentally deranged. I think there were some consequences, but I don't remember what they were. There was no violence involved.
God bless you, Liz. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Hurray, and mercy to the driver for changing the direction and getting all to safety. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings, as always a pleasure.

A woman of action! I'll bet you got a rousing cheer from your fellow passengers. Sometimes there's no option but to take matters into your own hands. It can produce surprising results.

This biographical non-fiction piece tells a succinct story of a little bit of rebellion that worked put well for all involved, despite the "unlawful" nature of the action.
Wrll written and presented.

You have always been a brave soul it seems, Liz! I don't know how much of this is true, but I think I can see it happening. Why did your bus never arrive? Glad the driver was kind enough to figure it out and get the frozen bodies home. Lol

What spunk and determination for a young woman.
I have to give also a tip of the hat to the MBTA driver. Instead of calling the police or refusing to move the bus, he went and got permission to change his route. Now that is customer service!
I enjoyed the lead-in and was expecting a more dire consequence.
Good story and an enjoyable read.
Regards,
Mary

Well, I'm glad everything worked out for you without a grand larceny or kidnapping charge that might still have you locked away on a life plus sentence. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
