Your skillfully-written poem is very descriptive--conveying a message about a long-held job and the mundane actions it entailed (This can be said of most, maybe all, careers/jobs!). A lighthearted look at the IRS!

I don't know if I would like that job, but I thought I didn't really love my job that much until this stinkin pandemic and now I can't wait to see my co-workers, living, breathing people to talk to. I haven't seen some in almost a year. I miss them. I don't think I ever got a notice from the IRS about owing money. One year I owed a dollar and they took it too. =] This is fun, hope you are enjoying retirement and do well in the contest.

This is a humorously creative poem that takes a funny look at the inside of the tax department. If you assessed penalties and interest, you know your department was not a public favorite. As a supervisor, you took your position seriously, but was able to bring humor to your reader. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

This is a really cute poem with clever bits of humor. Your lines flow very nicely and I can just hear you singing it along with a guitar. My only suggestion is to use a more readable font. I don't think the italics enhances the essence of your poem.

For many years I worked for the State,
I was never on time, often arriving late.
I'd arrive just in time to sit and chill
talking with co-workers, the same ol' drill.
I worked doing income tax- issuing refunds,
which were mailed out late - due to lack of funds.
I worked nine to five - my life was complete,
though mundane as I had a quota to meet.
Just an example of tightening it up. Thought it was still good overall. Thanks for sharing. Later daze.
