Hello Rdfrdmom2
So here are nearing the age of eighty. And smiles to you being a teacher (did you say 50 years?) How nice of you sharing your true story.

What an amazing career you've had, so many years in education. You are right, it is a job that must come from the heart if you are to do it well. And you obviously love your job. The rewards you get back knowing you have helped so many young people through their tests, and on to a good start in life. It must be so satisfying. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Fifty years is a long time, but it is clear from the story told here, you have managed to spend the last five decades in a job that you truly enjoy.

Thanks for sharing this upbeat piece.

Teaching is one the greatest jobs or careers in all of human history. Without you, what would mankind be. Yes, The first teachers were parents when children followed their parents, but when society expanded, teachers led the way.

-It is a good choice of
artwork and incredible story.
-Congratulations on 50 years
in education; I made it to 29 years.
-Like you, I met my first students
in 1972. I was 22, and was teaching
H.S. seniors. It is weird because
now, they are senior citizens, too.
-You tell a very good story. I wonder
how many states require renewing
the certificate.
-Kudos to you for continuing to
help students, and I agree with
your closing statement!
-Have a great school year!

Pam: I was 20 my first year and also had some seniors so they are also senior citizens - our peers, right. I would think most states require recertification - the number of years may vary. jan

It is hard to believe that fact that they are our peers! I may have done that early on, but I don't remember it after that. I did teach in De. and then moved to NJ. I am impressed that you have been in the field this long!

50 years? That's incredible and I commend you for your dedication. I'm sure you could write volumes on your teaching experiences. I was a substitute teacher off and on, and as stressful as that was, I really developed a high admiration for those who dedicated their lives to teaching. This should be an interesting journal-type book when you're all finished.

Justin: I think substitute teachers deserve a lot more credit than they get. Thanks for your kind remarks. jan

Thank you for sharing this. What a great honour to have been a teacher for that many years. Think of all the young lives you have influenced in that time. Congratulations on 50 years.

I was very good at straight arithmetic, times tables, long division Etc. The minute they introduced letters instead of numbers I lost the plot, fortunately English saved me, that was the "must get" in those days, well done Judy, congratulations, blessings Roy

Always enjoy your highlighting your writing career. What impresses me the most is how math was your forte' and love, but your English is all there! True stories well told are the best! Stan aka. Forestport

Stan: I have mixed dominance which is why I am good in math and English - or so I've been told! Thanks so much for your kind remarks. jan

My hats off to you. WOW fifty years. I couldn't handle all the changes that are being implemented. I also don't believe that math is racist. You're doing great job. Thank you and thank you for sharing with us.

barbara: If I had to do everything full-time teachers have to do, I would not still be doing this job. I have all the best of teaching without having to write lesson plans, do grades, fight with parents, etc. My # 1 job is to help kids be successful at passing Algebra 1 and the state test that accompanies it so they can graduate from high school. jan
