That certainly is a story for very many. I can imagine the painful relationship being a deterrent to ever trust another person in that kind of intimacy ever again. Great way to summarize in just these two lines.

A very concise piece Annie. Thought the way you were able to speak about how a sorrowful heart can lead to distrust in pursuing relationships was very profound. I guess we all have that fear that if we were to find someone else to love we might be betrayed all over again. Well done.

The poem addresses a deep truth--a painful relationship causes the hurt party to withdraw into a protective shell and avoid vulnerability. Safety becomes a higher priority that opening up to another person and the possibility of love.

It always amazes me how powerful just a few words can be. This poem tells an entire story and really gets at the heart of the matter. Kudos on a beautiful job. I don't know if that is yur artwork, but it certainly is moving and so very appropriate. What a lovely job you've done with this!
