I have been out of action for a month (arm in plaster even now). Sorry for what I have missed and will never be able to catch up.
This is a beautiful story of love, with hidden currents of unstated sacrifice hidden below the surface. Maybe it's time you started your memoir if you haven't already done so.

amada, What a wonderful true story about you seeing the shoes that you wanted. And you saw a box and Smiles you found a coarsely wrapped box on the kitchen table. With a timid smile, she signaled to me... My incomprehensible, inexplicable Mom.

Great little story of love between a mother and daughter. You write effortlessly, and the words read smoothly. I'm a little confused though. In the first line you're a teenager, and in the final line you're ten years old.
Regardless, well written story. Congratulations.

This is wonderful tale. I can only imagine what went through your mother's mind seeing the desire for those shoes in your eyes and wanting nothing more than to make baby's dream come true. Then the price tag hit like a cold bucket of reality. She must have worked and saved to still make that wish come true. Really, a treasured memory.

This is a beautiful entry for the 'True Story' contest. I love the gratitude and appreciation you have for your mother and the memory of the shoes and the love she had for you.

When I was newly married, my husband gave me his entire paycheck. I went to town and did not spend a penny of the money. I had spent my time only window shopping. He was impressed that I was so disciplined and from that day forward he trusted me when it came to money.

This is a very small point, but in an other-wise perfect writing I think you would want to correct it. It is a delightful story
following a melody that only she could hear. And I (there is an extra space here) kept thinking that when she was young, she could

Amada, I really enjoyed this well written true account of a small town girl discovering a lovely pair of shoes while window shopping one day. A price tag making the dream seem like a far away thought instead of a possible reality. As Mother's often do, they understand a young daughter's wishes as they are growing up and enjoy surprising them with gifts especially on special occasions like a birthday! Those shoes were probably one of many joys that you enjoyed with your Mother. Nicely written!

I enjoyed reading this contest entry and I am so glad you received those shoes. Thank you for sharing and good luck.
Her steps were light but secure, graceful, as if following a melody that only she could hear. And I kept thinking that when she was young, she could have been quite a dancer! (in both sentences the 'that' is an extra word and can be omitted & space issue after I & kept)
and I treasure the love that she could give. (again 'that')

What a beautiful story of a moment captured in time between a mother and a daughter. I love the description of your mom in this sentence - My mom, middle age, medium built, quiet like a lake on the surface, but underneath, the furor of a raging ocean.
Your story is one of the heart! Thanks for sharing it.
