Yes indeed failure to grasp the idiom of the language tends to a different understanding from that intended. The French for example understand that running belly to the ground (ventre &agrav; terre) implies running very fast while the imagery has English speakers imagine worming along on one's stomach.

That tower of Babel thing sparked off a lot of misunderstanding.
