June,
I like all the images of your poem.
First, that these flowers are kissed by the moonlight; also I like that the owl may also get a midnight meal.
Beautiful poem.
Excellent work.
Blessings,
Cindy.
Best wishes for the contest.

Love the central line in your Haiku June - glow eerily in the night - sends shivers down the spine. A good tie together with the moonlit peonies and the mouse who thought he was hidden. Nicely done, cheers valda

Your summer haiku is in great form, June. I love the beautiful image. Your words are well chosen, flow smoothly, and create great imagery. I could see everything as I read. Your words paint their own picture for readers.
Thanks for sharing.

I love peonies with their heavenly scent. My late mother once planted a peony bush in our front yard and every year that it bloomed it brought memories of her.
A stunning haiku with all the right trimmings. Your image brought tears to my eyes - it held so many memories.
Excellent response to the club challenge. This was a very special work for me.

I am so happy this poem brought back sweet memories of your mom. Flowers always remind me if my mom - she had a green thumb. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I adore peonies, they are bunches of petals like confetti waiting to burst into the air, you brought them to life in a nighttime incantation here, love Dolly x

I'm glad you enjoyed this haiku with the twist in the end. Peonies are one of my favorite flowers - and I admire owls and their acute hunting skills. Thanks for dropping by!
Comment from Gloria ....
I like this a lot. The first part of the poem serene almost except for the hint of eerie light, and then the satori says it all. There is much more to the night than that which meets the eyes. :)
Great job with this, June. :)

This is an excellent entry for your club Summer Haiku event. Your illustration is lovely and pairs perfectly with your words. I like your absolute following of the rules for a Haiku with your closing line.

June - this is a great entry of the summer haiku event in the haiku club. I like the sudden change in tone with the focus initially on the beauty of the flowers and shift to the imminent threat of the owl for the mouse beneath those flowers. Great entry. Thank you for sharing.

Ahh the truth of beauty can be a deception of life in the raw as it were June. Yes, indeed, sometimes the hook covered in a delicious bait, or the Venus fly trap, waiting to devour insects! Well done, great haiku. Blessings Roy
