I really enjoyed reading your story. You have such a wonderful way with words and are quite adept at expressing yourself. I found this writing to be very interesting. It held my attention throughout. Well, thank you most kindly for those generous words my dear. They are most welcome and accepted graciously. The piece in question was for a contes in which the entrants hadto decide which of the tactile senses they could do without if they had to. It was a toss up between hearing and smell. I thought the sense of hearing was the one I'd sacrifice, but la Muse had other ideas.As it happpens, I am in full possession of all five - not bad for an octogenarian. cheers Cass

A difficult choice! You make a good case for retaining your hearing. I'm gradually losing mine - an isolating experience. It's a good thing I'm by preference an introvert and a writer! I think I'd place sight at the top of my list. If I lost my sense of taste, then I could enjoy cheaper wine! LOL

It wasn't an easy decision to make, but as I have never had an acute sense of smell, I thought it the safest one to sacrifice. I agree with you about "sight." I would be lost without being able to see the faces of my son and his family. And to be unable to write!!It would be absolutely the end. Or so I say now!! Who knows what
changes in technology might bring some miraculous machine to bear? Anyway, that's enough of my philosophical twaddle. cheers Cass

Excellent remembrances, I think there is one more sense, and that is common sense. Not everyone has it, consequently, they are prone to errors, some inconsequential, many very important. I am thinking in the drug vein. So many start using drugs, not using common sense, and therefore end up with horrible habits. Anyone with common sense should be very thankful.

six stars. Yes, common sense is a necessary ingredient in the making of a useful, productive life. It has been my understanding that drug users usually start when they are at an unusually low ebb in their lives and someone offers them a way to "feel better." One taste and the damage is done. It takes a huge amount of courage and wisdom to refuse.Let's be thankful we aren't caught in that terrifying web. So few escape.

Dear Lancellot, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The reason the piece seems to lack balance was the need to keep within 300 words. On completion I found some drastic editing was needed. I decided to pare down the negative side rather than the positive.

Dear Lisa May, Thank you for your review and the five stars. Yes, I would miss hearing greatly were I to be that unfortunate. Life wouldn't have the same savour if my ears weren't in working order.
However, it is amazing how we adjust to the loss of one(or more) of our senses. I earnestly hope and pray never to discover this for myself. Anonymous.

I have had temporary deafness, blurred vision, and lost the sense of smell occasionally, but it sure makes me appreciate that usually all my senses are in good working order.

Dear Friend, Thank you for your review and the five stars. All our senses are precious and worth protecting and nurturing for as long as we have them. I would not wish to be bereft of sight!! No more sunrises, no more sunsets, no more watching the clouds, or the stars!! No I'll keep my eyes and ears for as long as I can.
