What a fantastic poem and story. It sounds like my mom. She was an early riser and was baking bread before we awoke in the morning. Ah, I can still smell the aromas filling up and through that kitchen.
I loved the sentiment and the beauty and happiness she sought in the kitchen and understand all too well.
I love being in the kitchen and creating from scratch all the finest delicacies that I learned through the years. It makes for many happy friends.
Love to you,
Marie

Thank you for the lovely review and generous compliments, dear Marie. I inherited my kitchen attitude from her, I think. I love to be there and feel like I?ve accomplished something worthwhile when I prepare a good rib-sticking meal or bake something. We could be sisters! Sending you my best today and love and blessings always,
Sal XOs

Wouldn?t that be sweet. Sisters!!

What a great poem for the Free Verse Poetry Contest. A lot happens in the kitchen! And when visiting either one of my grandmothers, I could always find them in the kitchen. Great job! Best wishes in the contest!

Hi dear Sally,
Such a beautifully nostalgic memoir on your dear grandmother's
life in the one special place where she had it all; her sole life's work,
duty and gracious dutifulness, her beloved kitchen. A simple life,
so unceremoniously lived, but no less nobly and unforgettably,
which through your enigmatic imagery and beloved memories,
have brought her to life and precious admiration and blessed eulogy.
Thanks for sharing dear, best of luck in contest.
Love, blessings, always, Ronni
P.S. Been of on a long over due vacation time, with a little extra time
just to unwind and relax after all the travel, LOL..had a marvelous time!

I'm glad your grandma enjoyed her kitchen, and I'm sure she'd enjoy this lovely tribute to her. My grandma did everything in her kitchen, even made her own butter. I can't imagine doing that.

I can make my own butter. It?s easy. I will post it. I?ve been working on a gluten-free cookbook for two years. I hope to have that in one of the sections. Thanks so much for the wonderful review, Sally XOs

Sad that in the times of old no one knew, Sally, from one day to another a life is lost. There were too many mouths to feed, not enough money to go to town and see a doctor. What people did was keep moving till they dropped. Nowadays, we're spoiled. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for the excellent review and comments, dear Jose. I have still kept my love of cooking and baking although blind. I have a gluten free cookbook in the works. Sending you my best today as always,

Sally:
I think it would amaze many of our families to find out how many children in their family tree did not survive past infancy or toddlerhood. My grandmother was the oldest of thirteen children - 8 girls and 5 boys. All the boys died young because they were hemophiliacs.
This is a lovely tribute to your grandmother. Good luck in the contest.

It is amazing what I have found on both sides of my ancestral line. Life expectancy was shorter back then, too. Thanks so much for reviewing, dear Jan. Blessings,

Sally,
Your poem reminds me of the old, tatted doilies my grandmother used to make. They were tatted of intricate design with a small hook needle. My gram also made arguably the best pies! Thank you for eliciting the sweet memories of my grandma.
You describe your own grandmama's passing as noble and peaceful.
Good luck in the contest.
Hugs,
Blessings,
Cindy

They say a lot of things happen in the kitchen. And the key to successfully organising your life depends upon how well you organise your kitchen! The kitchen is undoubtedly the most used room in the home and a place that is full of memories. I enjoyed your well-written poem. Good luck!

Women were such hardworking people who toiled from morning to night to feed and care for their families in those days, when no task was easy. It is a lovely tribute to her and her attitudes, and her strength. Well written. Best wishes for the contest.
