Very well written! And I can't tell you how much this poem is ME! My husband has put up with my staring at the throng for 28 years, but he doesn't like it. He tells me it's rude, as do all of my companions. They all feel like I am not paying attention to them -sorry but I JUST CAN"T HELP IT!
Thanks for letting me know I am not alone in this.

I must admit that i too have this habit of observing random people. When I am waiting at a bus stop or at the doctors,... The poem is well written and you have given a justification of your hobby...

Congratulations on your win with this well crafted poem.
Staring is a habit that makes other people feel uncomfortable, sometimes aggressive, but I indulge in it myself. I, too, find people fascinating and never mean any disrespect. I wouldn't like people staring at ME though.

Interesting poem about a unique habit; most people don't stare at others, generally. It can get you into trouble! I'm sure you've encountered more than a few returned stares, whether curious or angry. If you do it on a New York City subway car, you're likely to get, "Whatcha lookin' at?"
I know it happened to me, once. I didn't even realize I was doing it. I was just admiring some girl's blue Jean's, so I told her that. Fortunately, she was satisfied with that explanation, and that was as far as it went.
Hey, at least you're honest about it!

Yes! I've gotten a few annoyed looks by people who get offended by me staring. I wish they understood that I mean no disrespect...I'm just curious. Thank you so much for reading my poem. :)

You're very welcome. I am tempted to stare at people sometimes too, but I have to catch myself. If what caught my attention is something less than flattering, I don't let my eyes linger long, because my attention would most likely be unwanted, and cause offense. May God grant you wisdom and protection! - Mary Kay

Dear mystery author. If this doesn't win I demand a recount... Creative, honest, a wonderful read, great rhymes, and oh, I'm such a people watcher as well! Totally love this poem. Is this 150 characters yet? I want to go vote for you! ---Karenina

That's an understandable habit for a writer. We need to observe details so that we can write realistically. This is a great response to the contest challenge. Hope you do well in it.

Your poem flows very smoothly and has excellent rhyme, totally unforced, and meaningful. You have explained the habit well and also the reasons for it, (your creative thought processes and imagination) and also the misunderstands amongst others. Best wishes for this clever entry.

One of the many traits of a writer is to find the story in people's faces. To notice the world around you. What a wonderfully written poem.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Hi mystery writer

I really enjoyed reading your poem. It's definitely something everyone should be able to relate to. I love the fact that you resigned yourself to being a people watcher:
'wish I could stop staring but it's not meant to be.'
your end rhymes made the poem a joy to read out loud.
I wish you well in the competition, Pete
