This was definitely a short story. If the picture was anything to judge by, then it was more than a little overgrown. Gunther did indeed, clean up his back yard and found things he didn't know about. I enjoyed how his determination gave him the will to do something but I do agree with your narrative note 'It's not about gardening...' Very well done, very wisely put and deeply enjoyed.

I enjoyed this because I could smell the weeds as they were being cut up and blown away. I also think this could be about we allow our lives to be cluttered until we know longer see what's important. When we take inventory, we find the pleasant things we've been missing. I don't know if you know, but I lost my son in September, and I'm still struggling with that, of course. I think I got more out of your story than you know. Sorry this review is so long.

I'm thinking it is about clearing out the old things that seem to clutter up our lives to make room for fresh ideas and start anew. We can get bogged down in life at times. Well done, G man. Nancy:)

Your words are descriptive and well thought out. For this not to be about gardening, you set it up well. You have readers thinking it is . . .then you say no. I believe Gunther was clearing a space to 'plant' a body.

Splinters few--->flew

I am glad to get to read another post. I have honestly missed your writing. Now, I am wondering if this isn't about stripping away the issues we have in our lives before we can continue to progress? Thank you for sharing.

What an elegantly written story about Gunther's day of gardening. By telling us that this is not about gardening doesn't take away that this is about gardening. I could visualize the scene and smell the weeds! But so eloquently told. I loved it. Thanks for sharing.

Damned if I'm not worn out. LOL. But, I've never read such an eloquently written post about weeding, and being shamed by thoughts of everything I probably should have done myself. Thanks for sharing.

I think we've all enjoyed or rather let our "gardens" be overcome with weeds, and our procrastination allows things to get out of hand, but very little is really too late, there's always a chance to put it right, and be a better "gardener" in future, well done G, blessings Roy

-A good image to
go with your story, G.
-You tell with well with
effective imagery that
doesn't have anything to
do with gardening, but
describes the detail of it well.
-I think it is a metaphor for
his life; it is in a mess, just
like in the picture. He has
let himself go, and maybe
he is planning for his final
resting place. He figures it
should look nice and presentable
for the final journey.

Oh yes it's hard to be at more than one place at a time. So somethings get neglected that later need attention. I look forward to seeing your after thoughts with your after photo shoot.
How many times does this also correlate to the laundry and the kitchen sink.
Thanks for sharing.
