I read it and could see only gardening. Now for the imagination.
Brambles strangled the little plants, the strong against the weak.
Seems to me that Gunther is not a pleasant chap. Has a destructive urge. Can't make a story out of this. Are we supposed to? Mel.

Brilliantly evocative--you nailed the imagery start to finish. Of course, I have to take your word for the accuracy, given that I do ZERO yard work. Seriously, this is superb!

A very well written short story that leaves it all to the readers imagination. Nice, we can take or leave it...with our own sense of humor, or dis-humor. I always liked gardening, just picking up the weeds, each one I picked out of the ground, was like something I wanted to get rid of.

Your story is very intriguing, mysterious, and mind-stirring. When I read your note about it not being about gardening, my mind went in many different directions. With none of them probably the correct direction. I keep leaning towards exactly why Gunther was clearing the garden and getting so much pleasure out of it, and with so much determination. I'm not sure if the bin was for the weeds or his planting 'material' was in the bin. And I'm not sure what he was planning on planting? Maybe a body? Great job!

I get it, it's not about gardening it's about accomplishment and seeing the results. It could also be about letting time slip away. I guess it could also be about redemption. Am I close?

This has a nice witty little twist at the end, very subtle. But we do seem to be going in circles here, cutting down the plants and then planning on planting them again. I like the little bit about finding the chair that had been lost in the overgrown weeds. Down here, we can't do without weed wackers. I wouldn't last a week without one. estory

You paint a nice picture. I saw all of your labor as you went along. I enjoyed your wording. Very descriptive. I especially liked the line-"Life just gets in the way, sometimes." I find this happening in my life more and more. Blessings, Barbara

This story, Overgrown, if projected into one's writing, could apply to older works, unearthed and revised for updating. Perhaps the craft itself, revisited, or the site here.

Not about gardening but perhaps more about doing the things that you've put off too long and then enjoying the feeling of accomplishing something from a hard days work with your hands and sweat. That can inspire you to do more the next day. Life.

If your "strimmer" is akin to our "weedwhacker", you've struck a nerve with me. I've been needing to perform the same murderous ritual myself, but because of a nasty back injury, I've had to sit and watch the weeds continue to proliferate outside my window. It may be planting for Gunther, but it's watching my rosebushes (45 of them) choking to death.
Thanks for the reminder, buddy!
