This is quite a funny story. I wouldn't expect a twelve year old to be versed on the mechanics of disposable diapers. But, the baby sitting duo were creative enough to find a way to make the diapers work. I know the parents were shocked when they saw their baby. Great story, and great writing, as usual.

Thanks! The gist is true--I don't think they wasted the diapers. The parents were cool about it! (Four times was likely an understatement.)

Very cute! Well written and what fun....except for the girls. They probably didn't enjoy it much. I am glad so many others enjoyed this story. Good luck in the contest if it is one.

This story made me chuckle.

The title and description that accompany the piece are very well suited, and clever.

Sometimes in one's haste to solve a problem, one overlooks a most obvious solution.

Great job.

I'm sure that first job experience is something that will forever live in their memories! What a funny story! You did an excellent job in relaying it in your well-written words.

Hi Liz,
A fiasco. But there's always a learning curve with every new job. Now they know, and it will never happen again. Nobody is perfect at the very outset. But they can gain "experience".
I saw a TV comedy sketch once that involves the changing of a diaper, and the use of electrical tape. What a mess! I forget which show it was, but funny as hell. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe it was the 1987 movie starring Diane Keaton, "Baby Boom"... yes, it was!!!

This was such a funny movie... have you ever seen it?
Nicely penned, Liz!

    Thanks! T

I never saw that movie, but now that you mention it, I get a memory of a preview scene of her wrapping the diaper as my kids did.

You seem to have an unlimited store of entertaining stories, Liz. I'll say this for Melissa and Lauren - they are a pair of lateral thinkers! A splendid case of improvisation.

Four time it's a charmer:"Four times, just to make sure.

As the parents beheld their son fashionably decked out in black-on-white, the girls gave them the backstory.

After which, the parents explained that, in order for the diaper tabs to stick, you need to peel off the adhesive backing." very lovely story, thank you for sharing.

Though admirable, it does seem that 12 years of age would be a bit young to embark on a baby sitting assignment. Especially for a baby-baby. That's so funny about not getting the diaper tabs to stick, as they didn't know to peel off the adhesive. The baby must have looked strange decked out with the black tape. At least the girls learned one of the tricks of the baby-sitting trade. judi

I hope they were able to rescue the diapers. Last time I noticed, Pampers were pretty expensive. judi

A good amusing yarn as written in the final sentence. At least they didn't use Elmer's glue. Did they rethink of abandoning their service or just buy more electrical tape for future clients?

Oh my! I wouldn't have known that either but I'm sure I would have caught on eventually. They must have felt silly. My children came along, long before Pampers.
