It's strange how our minds tend to wander in this direction as we age. We don't really want to go (at least I don't) but we know the inevitable is always fast approaching. Like you said, we shall be thankful for each day that we are allowed to share, make the most of it, and be prepared when it comes. Smiles, Carol

Certainly none of us wish to pass on to the unknown, for we would rather just hang on to what we have--and you have captured what many of us feel, not fear, but sadness that our time is running out here on earth. Very enjoyable poem and as always great rhythm
All the Best!

You have a great poem here with lots of emotion in it. The simple, straight forward language is also quite personal and we really feel the emotion in your voice when you talk about hanging on to your life in this world. And that silence from the Lord is also quite dramatic and we really feel left alone to face the great unknown. I've written a story about death that I am planning to put into my next book, it's called Door Into The Dark, and it deals with this issue of facing death and all the uncertainty connected with this transformation we really know nothing about. estory

Hi Jaybird,
Oh this is so touching! We all yearn for just a little more time to accomplish one or two more things in life, or we imagine that to be the case. I love your poem. It is such a refreshingly honest plea to be granted more days on this earth.
You are a good poet that I had the pleasure to read and review.
Have a great week!
Always,
Senyai

Hello Jaybird1,
Nice piece of poetry having impressive phraseology, smooth flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme, and beautifully depicting its theme.
The last stanza is particularly noteworthy.

In my middle age I cannot fully appreciate the longing and melancholy that comes from the experience of over twice my years; while you appear to have come to terms with finality and inevitability these words convey the desperate clinging for one more day, one more month, one more year; there is a story of growth and maturity here which I have taken 35 years to myself appreciate and do so more appropriately thru these words; I mayhap incorrectly inference this is tied to some personal terminality which makes it all the more powerful.
A grain of salt:
It is my belief that although all enter into the sleep of death so too will all awake to behold the Lord in His glory and kingdom to come. I imagine the thereafter will yield the harmony, truth and peace we all hunger for; "eye has not seen nor has an ear heard what God has in store for them that love Him."
So too will the family of the Lord awaken to paradise.
Thank you for sharing.

Jaybird,
Ebbing Away is a beautifully penned and thought-provoking poem.
Excellent rhyming throughout with a very smooth flow.
I know that I am not ready to pass any time soon, but when my appointed time comes, I pray that my spirit returns to the Lord from which it came.
I take pleasure in my favorite scripture, Psalm 118:17
"I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD."
Thanks for sharing a most enjoyable read.
Blessings...Portia

Poignant lament--musing on a well-lived life that inevitably will come to an end--so true, few of us of sound mind and body welcome death, no matter our age. Sentiments beautifully expressed!

Jaybird1:
I think it would depend on a person's quality of life as to whether someone could honestly say they were looking forward to moving on to the next portion of their journey with our Lord and Savior. Godspeed to you, my friend.

Good poem with great rhyme and rhythm. I understand your feelings of wanting to stay around, not knowing what you face in the tomorrows of your future. I believe God has provided for us a beautiful future with Him, through His Son Jesus. I look forward to it, some day. For now, I'm enjoying each day where I am.
