Hi Irish,

This is a smooth as glass poem in rhythm and rhyme. The message is a true tear jerker about two men in the mother's life that are lost in the war. But the sweetness in the son's promise to his mother at the end, is enough to sustain her until she will see her husband and son again.

Beautifully written poem with a sustaining message of faith and comfort.

All the best,
Senyai

Bravo! I need a seven for this. As once a soldier in a foreign land not knowing I would ever return, I relate to this poem and congratulate the poet for a job well done.

Hi Ben, thanks for reading, all the stars, and your super review! Believe veterans understand this poem better, did a stint on a river gunboat, anyone who said they were not scared was full of crap.
    Cheers, irish

The sadness of this poem is infinite. This must have happened so many times during these past twenty years. It is so heartbreaking to even think about the sacrifices that have been made. I am sorry, I only have a remote six-stars to give you.

This is a great tribute to all military men and women who fight (and die) to keep us free. Your lines flow smoothly with poignancy. The art choice is perfect. Your lines read at a quick pace which is good IMHO. Veterans should be recognized everyday as well as those that gave their all. I Salute You.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

This is a sad but beautifully written poem. I can understand that mother pleadiing with her son not to go after she lost her husband. I'm glad I didn't meet my husband until after he returned from service. The ones left behind sometimes suffer the most.

This poem of yours moved me and brought tears. We need to appreciate those who gave there lives in service to our country, as well as those who continue to risk themselves to keep us say. A touching poem, thanks for sharing.

A powerful and beautiful poem and a worthy tribute to the ones you lost. Your words are very moving, and thought provoking. Your rhythm and metre have smoothly expressed your thoughts. You have captured perfectly the fears and grief of the mother. The note of optimism and anticipation of joyful reunions in heaven is uplifting. Thank you for sharing.

This is a skillfully-written, deeply moving, meaningful poem. It conveys a powerful message about the devastating losses or war--sometimes more than one in a family, as you have described here.

Such a sad and moving poem. I think you could have entered it into the Share A Story contest. It has happened where multiple generations and even brothers from the same family were lost to war.
I like the comfort you add that though the narrator did not come home physically alive, he did in spirit.
