Ciao mystery poet,

I gave you your 4th vote.

I love waking up to the chorus of birds ..

.. my next door neighbours are blessed : they have a swallow's nest right under one of their balconies .. each year the couple return from Africa to breed. ...

..seeing we are in the historical part of the town, our houses are attached so I get to hear them chirp/sing too. ( biggrin)

When I go shopping I look up in hope to see tiny head / beaks bobbing up and down.

I love your narrative .. I too get all excited watching this feathered family go about their business..feeding their chicks...

thanks so much for your comments and for your vote!!I really appreciate both. Little wrens either haven't hatched, or they did, earlier and somehow I missed them. "Is a puzzlement."
(If you ever saw "The King and I" with Yule Brenner -wonderful musical) - that's where that came from) :)

I love old films and yes I have seen ?the King and I ( the dubbed version in Italian of course and the original later on)

It?s been awhile since I saw it though.. the connection is because it?s a musical?

Yul Brenner was a great character actor.... Brothers Karamazov.. King of the Sun, Westworld just to mention a few.

"Is a puzzlement" is one of my favorite things Yule Brenner said in The King & I, and I was referring to whether or not I missed the wren babies. But I just came in from outside and parents are flying back and forth, in and out of the little wren house, so something is going on.

Your poem brings to life the Carolina Wren. "It's like a female opera star" is a perfect line that captures the power of the bird's song. Excellent free verse poem about a beautiful bird.

A beautifully composed poem highlighting the incredible song of the Carolina Wren.

The reader can hear the song through the writer's descriptive words.

Great job.

This is a lovely poem for the bird contest. Love the details about you fascination with this opera singer. Good luck with the contest and keep up the good work.

Yeah I agree, those little birds can belt out a tune...
I'd say your piece fits right in with this prompt.
I didn't see anything wrong with it at all.
Good job, as far as I'm concerned.
Good luck with the contest!

I do envy your having such song birds near you. The Carolina wren does not live ear us. I especially like your next-to-last stanza describing what you expect to hear once the babies grow up. Rod

Rod, the first time I realized the beautiful song I was hearing was coming from this tiny thing sitting on my fence with its beak open, I really couldn't believe it. I mean they have volume! And their songs are pretty and varied.
I don't live anywhere near either Carolina. Where do you live? I'll look 'em up. Maybe you do.

I live outside Chicago. I?d love to hear them.
