When men were men and women were glad of 'em. I would not like to have lived back then as these so called real men would have ruled the household and the poor woman would have to do as she was told. A fine well rhymed right Willie about what you think makes a reall man, I have to disagree, love Dolly x

I loved this story so poetically told. It brought back good old memories of Cowboy movies I used to watch in the good old days. Being in a non-English speaking country, quite alien to the American culture, those John Wayne movies were thrilling. Your story/poem, rhyme, and flow well.Good luck in the contest!

Very well said, and yes your story, poem, rhyme, and flow in these words is wonderful, the men and women had to be hard and adapt to reality back then , an excellent read, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

Talk about real men: Looking at your profile, I can see you in a cowboy hat, sitting tall in the saddle with a six-shooter strapped to your hip. lol I really like your poem and would love to be a fan if I'm not already. It told a great story and the rhyming was excellent. Great job!

I remember. Bring back real men again. Wish I knew how to post this each time I receive a friend request on Facebook. Real men don't have to steal identities. Your picture, your words and color state clearly -- no confusion. I am honored to award you a garland of stars. Ride on -- write on.

Thank you very much, I glad you liked the poem. Sometime I feel I
was born out of my time. The old west would be a better fit for me.
The "garland of flowers" are very much appreciated.

This is an excellent telling of a long ago time and way of life. The struggles and hardships of the cowboy existence are evident in your rhyming couplets and quatrain verses. You have used a rugged picture this is very fitting for this message.

Your well-rhymed poem with its driving beat certainly brought to life the tough conditions of life on the trail with Real Men. They had to be versatile and brave to endure the conditions. They knew hard times and hard work.
We've gone soft in these modern times.

I loved this. It told so much of the story of how the west was in reality. Your pace and rhyming are delightful. I guess I'd like you to write another one about how so many of the real men became men so young and came from so many places--Mexicans, Negroes, poor white boys and Indians.

Men have always been depended upon and have been the bearers of great responsibilities, throughout the centuries. Here in North America, they were everything a settler had to be. Providers, protectors, in short, doers.
Responsibilities are more white-collar, these days, and your poem aptly designates the difference.

I truly enjoyed your poem about the "real men" of the Old West, the cowboys and vaqueros who drove the cattle north for hundreds of miles over all kinds of terrain and through all kinds of weather. Well said! Rod
