This sounds like a poem written by John Wayne, it had such a smooth flow, very enjoyable. Also the line "the strays we left behind" that was golden. It's hard to find real men nowadays

Phillip, John Wayne was my favorite. There have been very few good westerns since he passed. Thanks, for the review and stars.

Well done with your poem Willy! It speaks of the hardships of life back when people despite being alone grew strong wings to fight real battles on their own. Chapeau to you for writing about this.

Cheers,
DJ

Yes, they were like cheap necessary paper, Rough and tough, never took crap off anyone. Good post. I enjoyed it. I enjoy writing about the old west. Thanks for sharing.

Your poem was penned in very simple and descriptive words that placed the history visibly before your readers. Those years could have been very awful and terrible with the 'Real Men' on rampage. Thanks for sharing your story, dear Willie, and good luck in the contest.

The author's words are descriptive, interesting, clear and creative. These
words reminded me of the old western movies I watched when I was a
child. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork is perfect and
compliments this poem.

Yes, those were 'real' men as you state. They were a rough and tough bunch and took no gruff from anyone or anything. Your contest entry reads well with a good story to tell. I like the rhyme, the smooth flow, the details, the image, and how it all works together to paint a picture of those men. Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

This is delightful. I am fascinated by the old west, particularly the people who heeded Horace Greeley to "go west young man". I really feel that I lived another life during that time period, because it has a strong pull on me. Men really were men back then. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Willie,

A wonderful poem about the Old West and the real men who were cowboys, herding cattle. Such an incredibly rough life, we can only imagine today. Life we would be lucky to live through.

Great writing here.
Best to you in the contest!

Always,
Senyai

I don't know whether I'd call robbers and killers real men, but it was a tough time to be sure. And the women had to tough to live in those times surrounded by Indians and rustlers. It all looks so romantic in the films, but I dare say that it wasn't. This is a fine story for the contest, Willie, well done and good luck. :)) Sandra xxx
