I guess we share a similar history, our country was founded on cattle, sheep, farming, gold rushes, with mighty towns growing from them, bushrangers and lawman, immigrants looking for gold, and convicts making good, beautifully written Willie, excellent verse and rhymingly smooth language, well done, blessings Roy

Roy, thank you for your review and stars. My younger years were spent in Law enforcement and trying to live a cowboy life.

Hello Willie!
Well, cowboys were incredibly brave; I love the "Wild West!" And I might add that you are brave to offer a poem about the differences between men then and now! Probably not 100% politically correct, but I loved the rhythm and images.
I'm not married to a cowboy, but he's a "real man!" :)
Thank you so much for sharing!

Smiles all around!

Real Men

I love cowboys and stories about the wild west. Cowboys and knights lived by higher standards...like paladins. I like the rhyming too. the presentation is very nice.

Like you, Gypsy, I am partial to the same type of books and movies.
Of course they are glamorized in both. Thank you for the review and
    stars.

I love this. There is no question that cowboys were about as much real men is possible. In addition to all the things you mention in tour poem, they had to be jacks-of-all-trades. I have always felt a strong kinship with them and actually have a short story here that I wrote for a contest (I Once Was a Cowhand). Thanks for the great testimonial to tough, strong men.

The songs we sung ==> sang

I would like to read your short story, sounds good. My wife used to tell me i was born out of my time. Susan, your review and stars are
    very much appreciated.

I think I was born out of my time and have a real affinity for the old west. My story may explain why.

I think this idea that men of today couldn't possibly survive back then is definitely overblown - it's not like the average lifespan was super long back then and I think our definitions of 'real men' probably differ wildly. Either way, the poem itself was good, thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest. Later daze.

Yes, the West had real men. I am wondering how good of fathers they were. I am betting they gave their families the same strength they gave everything else. Thank you for sharing.

Barbara, you ask a good question. When I speak of "Real men" I am
giving that credit to them for the very hard lives they led out on the trail. I assume it was like today, there were good and bad fathers.
thank you for your review and stars

I like this and I think the rhymes are excellent. Many have wondered what happened to real men? Now, I could have told you a poem about men or bringing back real men, as they were in the past would never win a FS contest. Maybe one about women, yes. But not men.

But, if you just wrote what was in your heart and you wanted to share. Well done. I enjoyed your work and see many others did too.

This is a good story of the old west and the excitement and danger of moving cattle from place to place. It has clear imagery. Though I don't think that men running from the law are real men. They are afraid of the consequences of their actions.

You are right about the men running from the law. The picture I was trying to paint was the hard work and endurance they had to have on the trail. Thank you Dragonpoet for the review and stars.

You supplied that image of hardwork.
    My pleasure. Willie.

This western themed poem tells the story of the old west lifestyle effectively.

The presentation is enhanced with the choice of the accompanying artwork.

Nice work.
