Oh, I understand . . . but then, I'm not exactly young. Rickles cracked me up, too. I know I shouldn't mention his name any more, but Cosby's early records were warmly funny. And Bob Newhart? Love his phone monologues.
Yes, they all succumbed to time, and the times.
Just a thought--what if your last word was 'bye'?
Best of luck with the Committee.
Peace, Lee

I like your reference to that song - can't remember the title but my mom had it on an Andy Williams album, "A kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is but a sigh" Yes, people are really too touchy these days. I say it's because so many have been manipulated by Russian hackers who have been causing division in our country.
Best wishes in the contest!

A clever approach to the nonet contest. I like the understated humour and the assumption in the last few lines that your readers will understand the allusions.
Good luck.

Yep, I knew the younger set wouldn't know the song.
That's okay with me. Thanks, Steve, for reading and commenting.

This is so true and I remember Don Rickles and Carol Burnett well. I have not tried this particular kind of poetry before and had to look it up. I enjoyed this. Good luck in the contest.

thanks.
It's a fun format and even more fun to make it rhyme ( which I only accomplished in 2 lines.) Oh, well, next time.

Very creative. There are just so many things that can't be touched any more. SNL did a job on Trump week after week, but they won't do the same with Biden. If a comedian appears on a college campus, he's likely to trigger something or other. No ethnic jokes, no making fun of politicians if they're progressives. I agree with your thoughts in this. Maybe things will change. You syllable count is right on. Best of luck in the contest. judi

thanks, Judi! I wonder how many younger readers (if there are any that read this) will know what in the world I'm talking about. :)
