This made me smile. The surprise was really on Sophie's friends when they heard her words, I imagine. Let's hope this didn't ruin her birthday.

You certainly took me by surprise, but probably not quite so drastically as poor Sophie! A clever 80-word flash fiction that manages to suggest a whole story. Nicely done. I hope it does well in the contest. Good luck with it.

One must always be sure there is no one else around when making disparaging remarks about their friends, relatives, colleagues, etc. Things can get really sticky in a heartbeat. Good luck in the contest.
