I approach every poem I read anticipating that the surface words are in fact a metaphor for something deeper - and indeed my own poems almost always hold inner meaning.
This time there is an obvious metaphor comparing the ascent of the mountain to the journey of life - often steep and difficult. But when you gave the mountain a feminine pronoun, I wondered too if you were referring to a courtship. If so it was brave indeed to describe your lady as worn, weathered, listing and unyielding!
I don't believe I have seen free verse from you before. A really enjoyable piece.

Steve thank you, a mixed metaphor of ones life yes, my bride and I both in our 70?s married 45 years and travelled well worn paths of struggle and bliss together. Thanks for your review and comments?

This expresses in poetry what I've watched on tv on Running Wild with Bear Gryllis. He makes the guest's journey become metaphorical. It is amazing what he gets these celebrities to talk about and how much self-confidence. This poem is a great metaphor. I like your use of personification. The reader is drawn in to become enamored with the mountain. This is a profound work.
