I love this free verse poem which looks like the trunk of a tree. You got my attention straight from the "sifted sunlight." There is such beauty in the play of light and shadow. And you captured it well in this poem!

Hi Helen. I tried to write a Nonet, but this one took a life of its own. Haha. Thanks so much.

Your concise free verse poem is very descriptive and expressive, conveying a powerful message about observing light and dark in nature.
Figuratively speaking, we find meaning, purpose in the dark, but then seek quickly the light.

Melissa,
Nicely formatted poem which tells us of how important light is to use literally and metaphorically. It allows us to see what is around us and to understand what is need to be done to make sadness and depression depart.
Keep writing and stay healthy

I truly do enjoy these bright bursts of poetry, and this no exception. A fine illustration of light playing in the leaves, and how assuring it is to know the sun is there.

A fine job with the presentation too. :))

-Nice artwork and
presentation, Melissa.
-Effective images paint
a vivid word picture of
the sunlight and shadows,
along with the magnolia tree.
-A good ending that shows
going from the darkness of
a cave to the bright beam of light.
-Well done.

You are welcome, Melissa. The spring and summer has fluctuated between cold and hot. Most of June has been hot and often rainy:)

Is this a photo of your tree? Lovely free verse using a lot of alliteration. I especially like how you made us of the shadows and light. We had a huge magnolia when I was little that we played house under. It, too, was like a cave.

Hello Yvonne. I do have a magnolia tree? a big one.. but we are having a rainy few days and so I searched for a pic. We have heard that you all are having lots of rain?. Our cousins in Dumas had 12 inches and were flooded out? our family farm in Brinkley has roads under water. Whew!! You stay safe! Thanks for the review.

Melissa,

This free verse poem meshes nicely with your bio statement. Your world, including FanStorians, is a much better place with your writing.

Your selected artwork is a great match for your verse, which in my mind looks like a pathway to your higher light.

Exquisite images, Melissa. You managed a creative approach to light and sunbeams. I like your use of sift and shift, and your sunlight playing in the shadows. I like your personal touch with you thinking about the absence of light in caves, which makes you shift and be grateful for the beams.
This is a poem of beauty and gratitude. Well done. I like it so much. It shows your talent.

I loved the shape of your poem here Melissa as if this is a shadow left upon the ground by a tree, a sweet descriptive free-write as low light casts shadows, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
