Ooh! The bad guy is within touching distance of the good guy. That makes for a tense situation that is playing out in 'our' favor as his clumsiness has brought suspician on him immediately. Nice of him to drop by.

Here is another fine chapter to both advance the plot and raise the suspense, with a bit of humor thrown in.

In Section One, you set the scene for the day -- oppressively hot and humid. Ha! Yes, the mosquito being the state bird of Louisiana makes sense. ;}} When Suzy turns on the television, you learn that Duran Gibbons has vanished, thereby complicating what had been a cold case.

In Section Two, your call to Captain Will Moran at the New Orleans Police Department regarding your connection with Duran Gibbons brings you an unexpected offer of use of his mobile CSI lab at no cost. Yes, it is logical that the price of your uncle's oil painting should be higher, as the demand seems to be greater than you thought.

Section Three reminds us how close you unknowingly are to solving the cold case of the disappearance of Camille Jean-Baptiste.

In Section Four, the rental unit containing Camille's belongings yields useful DNA evidence to use to verify her identity when she is found. We are left with two questions. Will the excessively curious guy that Detective Lembowsky had to chase away turn out to be involved in the case? And, once the mobile crime lab arrived, what will be the "good part" Dr. MacLavish is referring to?

In Section Five, it seems Tony Alfanzi is brazen enough to pretend to be a fan wanting to meet The Blind Girl in her home police station. He must have imagined he could somehow get away with capturing her. When he leaves after learning she's away, Lieutenant Janelle Harris has the presence of mind to catch his car's plate number and learn the owner's name -- Lonnie Hastings. She then radios Sergeant Dina Ray to go to the owner's house to check that all is well, and also calls Detective Lembowsky to tighten security. Of course, the car was stolen and may be carrying in its trunk body bags containing both Mr. Gibbons and Mr. Hastings for dumping into the Vermilion* River.

As usual, the story proceeds well-paced with plausible dialog.

Superb, and aptly illustrated.

* Because the river bears a French name, you are right to spell it with one L. (There are similarly named rivers elsewhere which are spelled with two Ls.)

Thank you for the wonderful review and generous six stars. I?m so glad to see you today. This is the only place I misspelled Vermilion River. I have repaired it. Thank you, again.
Sending you my best today as always,

You are most welcome, Sal. I adjusted my comment and left it in to advise others that you now have it correct with one L. :)) -- Mike

Ouch, those paintings are making a little disturbance! Hopefully the bad will be found in this chapter before they do any damage to the paintings or anyone else.

LOL, love your state bird the mosquito. That's good because that means there won't be any around here anymore. ;-) And the chapter just keeps getting better after that superb opening.

Your delineation of the setting makes everything clear, the dialogue is natural and a lot of fun, as this crime is figured out.

Another fine chapter in your novel, Sally. :))

Good Morning, Sally. I wanted to get in here bright and early, as we have another busier-than-usual day ahead. We always go over to help for a while with our 14-month old toddler, Isla Bennie, but now our son has a stiff neck... so we're there until Leslie comes home from work at the hospital. A long day for us old folks!
Anyhow, I loved this, right of the get-go,
"...rousing our state bird: the mosquito."
We have quite a population of those critters ourselves here in New Brunswick...STM's, Saber-tooth mosquitoes!
You'll have to remind me about the DNA evidence...
"The first two boxes of Camille Jean-Baptiste's belongings were gold: a bedspread, favorite blanket, and dolly. There was even a hairbrush!" I'm sorry, but I forget how they came upon these items. (I guess it's been too long since the last chapter I reviewed.) But I need to fill in this gap to understand the story. If the troop only knew how close they were to finding Olivia! and her daughter, Danielle, too!
So, Duran's killer took the body with him. And it seems he'd like to take our Sally as well. Sally is in danger. I'm assuming this guy works for Tony Alfanzi, "Tony the Tiger". He wouldn't do his own dirty work.
Sally is lucky to have a personal assistant like Suzy Fleming. She's on the ball. I can't even begin to imagine how unpleasant June would be in Louisiana. I can't stand too much heat, even up here in southern New Brunswick. We've had a few humid days, but the evenings are quite pleasant.
I hope Sally will be able to sell her uncle's painting to The Fountain Gallery.
You leave this bit up in the air, Lonnie Hastings. Who is he? And why is Tony the Tiger's man driving his car? Undoubtedly, Duran Gibbons' body is in the trunk.
Looking forward to the next chapter, Sally! Terrific writing! So many pieces to the puzzle.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Brought me back to my old C B Handle. So real to me. It may never sing loud to anyone else, but I am in Louisiana, just south of me, and I know both places very well. Another good one, Sal. Dad- Burnt it. I spent all my sixes.

Brilliant! I love the little details you add to your writing that gives it such personality. The one here too which I refer is that mosquitoes are Louisiana's state bird. Cracked me up!

I'm not sure what it is about this book, but if you don't get the book of the month, somethings wrong. Well written. Great dialogue. Excellent descriptions. Love it! Thank you for sharing. Hugs and blessings always.

Oh dear, Sally, something is really off with this guy. He is up to no good at all and seriously wants to harm Sally. I'm surprised he had the nerve to walk into the station.
So, what now? I can't wait to reading on. All best. Ulla xxx

I got all hot and sweaty just thinking about Louisiana as I read this chapter, the humidity, mosquitos, and struggling to get my breath in the summer. Thanks for sharing.

Your story is engaging and moves along briskly. Your characters are warm and relatable. I believe this is the first chapter I've read, and I like it.

Since your main character bears your name, is this a true story, or a character you'd like to be?

Great job either way,
Rhonda
