I enjoyed this cute little tale. Some children think they have committed a serious offense, when in fact adults find the deed endearing. You've captured just such a sweet moment in family life. A hug is the best punishment and the best reward one can give or receive. Good job with this!

Hello, I like the concept of this short little piece of writing, but it lost me among the way... Does the little boy think there's something wrong with playing "patty cake?"
Perhaps instead of taking up precious word count to say:
"Mom, Dad, I did this and that," Josh confessed.
"Aw, that's nothing, son," Dad said.
The kid wasn't okay with it.
You could use those 21 words to elaborate on why he thought his confession would lead to a real punishment.
Just some thoughts...
