This is a delightful, heartwarming story of love. Anna taught her daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter a song that would one day bless Anna, and in turn bless them. This story is well written, memorable, and should do well in the contest.

What a great story. Reminds me kind of like my mother's last Christmas. It's nice they were able to bring some joy into her life at the end. It's funny what will trigger a dementia patient into remembering. Good luck in the contest.

This is a beautiful story. So sad when a parent or grandparent can't converse with you anymore. Dementia and Alzheimers are terrible diseases. It robs the person of enjoyment until they die. I do believe that though they can't hold a conversation and maybe don't recognize family members that happy memories are still there.
Great job! Good luck with the contest~

Thank you, Patti. It was a very difficult time for our family. However, I am so grateful that we got that last lucid moment with my grandma. I appreciate your comments and review.

This is a beautiful story, and I think it is wonderful that Anna had such a loving and caring family to be creative enough to give her those last moments of joy. I hope this entry does very well in the contest.

They say that some things are printed on our soul. Heart, whatever we want to call it. But be that as it may, the mind and soul of a person remains a mystery to even the cleverest of people, we will always have the ethereal with us, something can spark a lucid reaction as it did with Anna. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

What a delightful story. To live long enough to have a great-granddaughter is a blessing within itself. I thought the story said a lot for just 200 words. Great job!

Thank you. The grandmother on my other side actually had a great great granddaughter. We got our picture in the paper! :-) I appreciate your comments and review. Have a blessed day.

Contest announcement says must be exactly 200 words not counting the title. I counted only 194 words using Microsoft Word. You might want to recheck. The site warns us to use the word processor on our computer. The site word counter is only an estimate. Good luck. You can probably still fix this.

thank you for letting me know about the word count. I have been using the automatic readability checker to count my words.. I'm wondering if the hyphenated words are messing something up. Do you know how hyphenated words are counted on fan story? That is the only thing I can think of for the discrepancy.
Thank you for letting me know.

Hyphenated words count as one word. Examples: two-year-old child is counted as two words, not four. the hyphenated word here is A (one) compound adjective and always counts as one word.

Interesting. While two hundred words isn't a lot to work with, I would recommend trying to craft your stories to show more rather than telling the reader. That way the reader will have a greater connection to your story and characters.

This is such a sweet story as I had a grandma who had dementia.
There's nothing more rewarding than to find something that brings joy and a sense of familiarity to your loved one.
You expressed it so well in your writing.
